Jones, who toppled 1434 pins, to become the first player who cracked the 1400-bar. Petteri Salonen of Finland, England's Stu Williams and Martin Paulsson of Sweden were next to Jones in Squad 2 but missed the top 4 by nine pins or less.

Pedersen set the early pace with 1381. Shogo Wada of Japan was second with 1371 including a 297 high game. With three more squads to go, Koreans Shin Seunghyeon and Kang Heewon were tied for third place at 1367.
