New Format To Use Basketball-style Tournament Brackets To Crown Next Inductee

2010BPAALogo.jpgFor the fourth consecutive year it's the people who will have the power to choose the next inductee into the Celebrity Bowling Hall of Fame with the launch of an American Idol-style competition that will be sheer "Madness."

The excitement and anticipation will heighten with a new basketball tournament-inspired bracket that will track weekly competition of some of the most popular celebrities pitted against each other in head-to-head voting competition that will play out over the course of the competition March 12 - April 10, 2012.

There will be nine celebrities from which to make up a bracket. In the competition, celebrity #9 will face celebrity #8 for the right to make the final bracket, and face celebrity #1. In subsequent pairings, #2 will face #7, #3 will square off against #6, and #4 and #5 will battle it out.

Consumers will go to GoBowling.com and vote for their favorite celebrity in each bracket.

Each week the celebrity getting the most votes in their individual match-ups will advance to the next round of the bracket until there are only two celebrities remaining. Voters will then sound off and choose who will be the 2012 inductee into the Bowling Celebrity Hall of Fame.

As an added incentive to participate, thousands of bowling centers across the United States are teaming together to provide a buy-one, get-one free coupon to everyone who casts a vote. Simply by voting at GoBowling.com, consumers can download the coupon to use at a participating bowling center (participating centers will be listed on GoBowling.com).

"The fans have a lot of fun and are passionate about voting for their favorites. We want to continue to give them the opportunity," said Steve Johnson, executive director of the Bowling Proprietors' Association of America, the bowling industry's leading trade association.

"For the industry, the upside is an increased awareness in bowling and for the proprietor it's the increase in the number of people who use the coupons to bowl at their centers."

Voting kicks off on March 12 when consumers will be able to fill out their brackets and begin to cast ballots for their favorite celebrities. The public will be able to check voting totals to see who is leading and who gets left behind. Vote totals will be updated weekly.

Consumers who have a perfect bracket throughout the entire event will be entered into a drawing to win a grand prize of an Apple iPad pre-loaded with the newest bowling mobile app - XBowling.

"The Celebrity Bowling Hall of Fame voting is a fun event that gets a great response year after year," said Keith Hamilton, chairman of the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame.

"It's always interesting to see who the fans vote for. It's great for bowling because, as a public relations initiative, it keeps bowling top of mind to a wide audience and generates a lot of media coverage."
