Finland's Tony Ranta wins his first EBT title in Chandra Open 2012

    Dutch Ghislaine van der Tol finishes third to win the women's ranking in Nieuwegein, Netherlands

The former European Youth Champion totaled 2654 for the last 12 games, an average of 221.17, to beat out qualifying leader Daniel Vezis (right) of England for the top spot by 19 pins.

    Ranta overtook the lead after the first game in Round Three (seventh game overall) with a 279 and never looked back. Vezis, who led the top 8 into the final six-game round, fell behind due to two sub-200 games but rebounded with 244 and 237 and was mere 19 pins behind Ranta heading into the last game.

Three-time EBT champion Ghislaine van der Tol (left), Netherlands, was another 18 pins behind in third place with 2615 including handicap en route to win the women's ranking in Nieuwegein.

    The Chandra Open 2012 will be held Sept. 24-30, 2012 at 16-lane Chandra Bowling in Nieuwegein, Netherlands, The tournament is the 15th stop of the 2012 European Bowling Tour and the fifth out of seven EBT "Satellite" tournaments this season.

    The Chandra Open offers total prize fund of 24.600 Euro with 5.000 Euro going to the winner and 3.000 Euro to the runner-up, while the third and fourth place finishers will receive 2.000 Euro and 1.000, respectively.

    Qualifying of the Chandra Open (six-game series, unlimited re-entries) ran from Monday, Sept. 24 through Saturday, Sept. 29 and concluded with the Desperado Squad. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game throughout the entire event, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.

    A total of 38 players advanced to the finals on Sunday, Sept. 30 - the top 30 players from the overall qualifying standings plus the top 4 from a separate leader board of Squad 1-3, and the top 4 from the Desperado Squad. The top 6 qualifiers earned a first-round bye.

    The other 32 players will bowl six games starting from scratch with the top 10 advancing to the second round. The top 10 from Round One and the top six qualifiers will bowl six games starting from scratch to cut to the top 8.

    Those eight will bowl another six-game block with the pinfall from Round Two being carried forward. The player with the highest 12-game total will be declared the winner.

    2012EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2012 European Bowling Tour is made up of 19 events in 16 countries including two Platinum, four Gold, six Silver and seven Satellite tournaments.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event earn ranking points based on how they finish in the event. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament such as the Chandra Open gets 50 ranking points.

    Those points will be tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 16 men and top 16 women who will compete in the sixth EBT Masters in Bratislava, Slovakia in Sept. 2013.

    The next stop of the European Bowling Tour is the 10th Columbia 300 Vienna Open which starts Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria. The tournament is also the 11th stop of the 2012 World Bowling Tour and offers a PBA title for PBA members.

    Live coverage commences Oct. 1 with the no-tap tournament, which traditionally kicks off the tournament on Monday evening. Live streaming of the 10th Columbia 300 Vienna Open will go online Friday morning, Oct. 5, during qualifying squad 10 and will continue for the rest of the qualifying and all rounds of the finals.

    Bowling fans around the world will be able to watch the stepladder finals on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 5 p.m. CEST (11.00 a.m. EDT; 11.00 p.m. Hong Kong Time) live on Bowlingdigital TV. The award ceremonies are scheduled for 6.00 p.m. CET.
