Yelena Grishinenko, Ilya Orlov win 2014 Kazakhstan Cup

    Duo will represent Kazakhstan in the 50th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Poland

    2014KAZCupYelenaGrishinenko.jpg Yelena Grishinenko (pictured left) of Almaty and youth bowler Ilya Orlov of Astana captured the women's and men's titles in the 2014 Kazakhstan Cup which was held June 14-15 at Bowling Club Olimp in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

    The Kaz Cup drew 16 men and six women. All players bowled 12 games of qualifying on dual lane condition. The top eight men and all six women advanced to round robin match play.

    After seven and five match play games, respectively, the players with the highest 19 and 17-game total including bonus (20 pins per win, 5 for a tie; additional 5 pins bonus for each game from 200 to 249 and 10 pins for each game from 250 to 300) was declared the champion.

    Local favorite Grishinenko, a five-time Kazakhstan champion, dominated the women's field from the beginning. The 37-year-old had a 1257 series on the 43 feet long pattern and a 1287 series on the 35 feet short pattern for 2544 qualifying total, an average of 212, to hold a 320 lead over second place Irina Lazaridi of Atyrau with 2224 (185.33).

    Grishinenko averaged 195.8 in match play and added 110 bonus pins to cruise to the title with 3633 total. Lazaridi finished distant 489 pins behind in second place with 3144. Natalia Orlova of Astana landed in third place at 3065.

    2014KAZCupIlyaOrlov.jpg16-year-old Ilya Orlov had an 1288 series on long oil before he averaged 211.67 on short oil to make the cut to match play in fourth place with 2558 12-game total and an average of 213.17.

    Local bowler Gennadiy Vologin led the field with 2586 (215.5). Yuriy Sazonov was second with 2579 and Ruslan Ekkel third on 2559.

    Orlov (right) averaged 213.57 in match play including games of 214, 217, 192, 195, 208, 258 and 211 for 1495 seven-game total and added 150 bonus pins to win his first career national title with 4203 pinfall total.

    Vologin slipped to second place with 4117 after averaging 205.14 in match play. Konstantin Izhboldin leaped from six to third place with 4004.

    Grishinenko and Orlov will represent Kazakhstan in the 50th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup to be held November 1-9, 2014 at Sky Bowling Center in Wroclaw, Poland.
