Bjørn Einar Rudshagen wins his second consecutive title in the IDM Bucharest Open

In a high scoring championship match, defending champion and tournament leader, Bjørn Einar Rudshagen (pictured left) of Norway, topped Finnish two-hander Osku Palermaa, 257-248, to win his second consecutive title in the IDM Bucharest International Bowling Open and the 3.500 Euro top prize Sunday at IDM bowling center in Bucharest, Romania.
Rudshagen was the second Norwegian national team member after Tore Torgersen, winner of the Norwegian Open, who won an international title on Sunday, Oct. 12. Rudshagen got permission by the Norwegian Bowling Federation to participate in the Bucharest Open instead of the Norwegian Open as he was invited to defend his title in Romania.
Rudshagen and Palermaa who finished 1, 2 in Final Round 3 and 4 to earn the No. 1 and No 2 seed for the stepladder finals sat and watched the opening shootout match in which Catalin Gheorghe (right) of Romania posted a 275 game to take care of Vassilis Stefopoulos (185) of Greece.
Palermaa (left), reigning world champion in five-player Teams and a 13-time European Bowling Tour champion and four-time PBA titlist, rolled a solid game to eliminated Gheorghe in the semifinal, 208-174, for the right to bowl top-seeded Rudshagen for the title.
Palermaa received 2.500 Euro for second place. Gheorghe pocketed 2.000 Euro for third place and Stefopoulos garnered 1.500 Euro for fourth place.

The 5th IDM Bucharest International Bowling Open was held from October 5-12, 2014 at IDM bowling center in Bucharest, Romania, and offered total prize fund of 22.150 Euro. The 14-lane center is a split house with six lanes in one part and eight lanes in the other part.
Total 40 players survived the qualifying. The top 4 qualifiers earned two byes while qualifiers 5 to 16 got one bye. The finals featured four 4-game rounds in which the field was trimmed to 28, 16, 8 and then four players, who determined the winner in a traditional stepladder final.
