Pontus Andersson takes over qualifying lead at Norwegian Open 2015 by Brunswick

    Swede leads a field of 111 players after 7 of 23 squads with 1469 total and an average of 244.83; youngsters Jens Mathiesen, Alida Molander crack the 1400-bar



    2015EBT15PontusAndersson.jpgWorld Youth champion Pontus Andersson (pictured left) of Sweden posted a 1469 series in the fifth qualifying squad Sunday afternoon at Veitvet Bowling Center in Oslo, Norway, to overtake the lead in the Norwegian Open 2015 by Brunswick.

    Andersson, who won the gold medal in Doubles at the 2014 World Youth Championships in Hong Kong with Markus Jansson, fired games of 237, 279, 224, 236, 247 and 246, an average of 244.83, to overtake previous leader Tor-Øyvind Lunde of Norway by just two pins.

    Lunde slipped to second place with Lunde and was followed by Audun Boye Hansen and Martin Moen Stikbakke with 1443 and 1442, respectively. Two youngsters (pictured above) cracked the 1400-bar in the last squad on Sunday (7th overall).

    Jens Mathiesen (left) of Norway led the squad with 1432 and an average of 238.67, including games of 243, 227, 267, 235, 214 and 246, to jump into fifth place.

    2015EBT15AntonPersson.jpgAlida Molander (right) of Sweden rolled games of 213, 237, 223, 227, 206 and 256 for 1362 scratch, an average of 227.00, and added 48 pins handicap for 1410 total. She is the best of 20 women in the 111-player field in seventh place.

    Glenn Morten Pedersen is sandwiched between the two youngsters in sixth place with 1412, while Thor Kristian Østlie fell to eighth place on 1405. Andreas Skoglund missed 1400 by just one pin to take ninth place with 1399.

    2015EBT15TimmyFredriksson.jpgRounding out the top 10 was Lars-Christian Nygård, all from Norway, with 1378. Anton Persson (right) was the second Swedish squad leader on Sunday as he totaled 1359 in Squad 6, good for 15th place overall.

    Fellow Swede Timmy Fredriksson (left) flirted with perfection, firing 11 strikes to start the last game of Squad 6 before finishing with a 299 game, the highest game of the tournament so far. Fredriksson sits in 26th place with 1277.

    The No. 42 score to beat to advance surpassed the 1200-mark. Guttorm Bjørøen of Norway is "on the bubble" with 1208 and an average of 201.33.

    Qualifying commences on Monday, October 5, with Squads 8 & 9 scheduled to start at 5 and 8.30 p.m. Central European Summer Time (CEST).

    The Norwegian Open 2015 by Brunswick is the 15th and penultimate stop of the 2015 European Bowling Tour, the last of nine EBT "Satellite" events and the last EBT event on European soil this season. The tournament will be held from Oct. 2-11 at Veitvet Bowling Center in in Norway's capital city of Oslo.

    The tournament offers total prize fund of 239.000 Norwegian Kronor or more than 25.000 Euro with 40.000 NOK going to the winner and a last-to-cash payout of 1.000 Kronor for 60th place.

    BowlingdigitalBanner.gif Bowlingdigital will provide onsite coverage of the Norwegian Open 2015 by Brunswick from Veitvet Bowling Center in Oslo featuring stories, photos and results after each round commencing Thursday, October 8, all the way through to the finals. The finals will be on Sunday, October 11, completed in the late afternoon.

    Qualifying of the Norwegian Open began Friday, Oct. 2 and concludes Saturday, Oct. 10 with the final Squad 23 scheduled for 5 p.m. local time (CEST). Women receive 8 pins handicap each game (maximum is 300), an equality handicap provided to women in all EBT events.

    Total 60 players will advance to the finals on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 10 & 11:
    • the top 42 players from the overall qualifying standings
    • two players from a separate leaderboard of Squad 1-7, who are not among the top 42
    • the next four women
    • the next four juniors (must not be born before Sept. 1, 1997)
    • the next four seniors (must be 50 years of age on Oct. 2nd)
    • and two players each from the Turbo 1 and 2 list (highest score in qualifying game 5 and 6, respectively; separate fee necessary).

    2015EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2015 European Bowling Tour currently consists of 16 tournaments in 12 countries featuring three "Platinum" events, three "Gold", three "Silver" and seven "Satellite" events. All 16 tournaments together offer total prize fund of 850.000 Euro.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. Those points will be tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 12 men and top 12 women, who will compete in the 9th EBT Masters July 25, 2016 at Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino following the 12th San Marino Open.
