At a meeting prior to the European Champions Cup in San Marino, the European Tenpin Bowling Federation (ETBF) presidium has decided several changes to the European Bowling Tour rules effective for the Tour's 2017 season.

The EBT was founded in the year 2000. The presidium has observed that it is getting more and more difficult to attract new "Satellite" tournament (the lowest tournament category) to join the Tour and even harder to keep them going.

During the 2015 EBT season seven tournaments, including six "Satellite" (Asti, Italy; Gibraltar; Ekaterinburg, Russia; Catania, Italy; Florence, Italy; and St. Petersburg, Russia) and one "Gold" tournament (Istanbul, Turkey) have withdrawn or have been canceled.

After being told "numerous times" that the gap between the ranking points given for "Gold" (triple ranking points) and "Platinum" (fivefold ranking points) events is too big, the presidium finally agreed to make some changes.

The presidium has added a "Bronze" category to its existing four categories (lowest to highest category: Satellite, Silver, Gold and Platinum), adjusted the ranking point system accordingly and made several changes to the requirements within the respective categories.

Categories and requirements for the 2017 European Bowling Tour:
