Naif Oqab bags 4th DIBC Open Masters title

    2016DIBCOpenNaifOqab.jpg Top seed, Naif Oqab of the UAE lived up to seeding expectations to bag the Open Masters title of the 4th DIBC Open Bowling Tournament Saturday at Dubai International Bowling Center in Al Mamzar, Dubai, UAE.

    Oqab (pictured left, center), who earned the No. 1 seed for the stepladder finals thanks to of 222 last game in Round 3, fought a closely contested match against HRH Prince Mohammed Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, needing a spare and strike in the 10th frame to shut out the Prince and to win the title match, 214-200.

    The second seeded Al-Saud earned right to bowl Oqab for the title by defeating 19-year old Basil Ng of Singapore, seeded third, by mere two pins, 197-195. The Singaporean youth brushed off the challenge from No. 4 seed Shaik Abdul Hameed of India, 227-206.

    Oqab bagged the champion's trophy and the top prize of 25,000 Dirham or roughly $6,800, while Al Saud received AED 12,000 for second place. Ng took home the AED 8,000 for third place and Hameed garnered AED 5,000 for fourth place.

    The champions of all divisions (Open, Graded A, B and C) and the top qualifier in the Open Division (Mahmood Al Attar, UAE) each were awarded a return ticket from Turkish Airlines.

    2016DIBCOpenLogo.jpg The 4th edition of the DIBC Open Bowling Tournament drew 85 bowlers from 12 countries, Bahrain, England, India, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates.

    The main sponsor was Dubai International Bowling Center, supported by Bowling Corner Sports Equipment with Turkish Airlines, Dutco Balfour Beatty, Axiom Telecom, Cool & Cool, Al Wahdania and Parthas Textiles as co-sponsors. The tournament is sanctioned by Emirates Bowling Federation, Asian Bowling Federation and World Bowling.
