Singapore wins gold in Women's Doubles

    2006AsianGamesLogo.jpg Valerie Teo and Michelle Kwang from Singapore captured the gold medal in the women's Doubles at the 15th Asian Games in Doha, Qatar. Teo, the World Youth Championships Doubles silver medalist (with Cherie Tan), led the way with 1407 six-game pinfall and Kwang added 1264 for 2671 and an average of 222.58.

    Koreans Choi Jin A and Kim Yeau Jin, a two-time gold medalist in the 2002 Asian Games, earned the silver medal with 2620 (218.33). Both duos bowled in Squad 1. Leading the second squad were Maki Nakano and Kanako Ishimine from Japan, who finished with 2598 (216.50), good enough for third place overall. They edged Singapore's Jennifer Tan and Cherie Tan, who had to settle for fourth place with 2582.

    Gang Hye Eun from Korea set another highlight when she started her six game series with the second perfect game of the championships and the first by a woman. Hye Eun and Nam Bo Ra ended up in fifth place with 2569 (214.08).

    Defending Asian Games Doubles champions Shalin Zulkifli and Wendy Chai from Malaysia did not bowl together at the Qatar Bowling Center. Zulkifli teamed with Singles champion Esther Cheah to land in 8th place with 2533 (211.08) while Chai and Choy Poh Lai ended up in 14th place with 2409 (200.75).
