Catalonia Open champion, Martin Larsen from Sweden, leaped to second place in the men's rankings.

Both players received 100 ranking points in Barcelona as the Catalonia Open was an EBT "major" tournament and offered double ranking points. Larsen, who finished second in the season opener in Helsinki, has now 180 ranking points trailing 3-time defending champion Paul Moor from England by 44 points. Moor has won already two EBT titles this season in Tilburg and Luxembourg.

Last year's EBT rankings runner-up Osku Palermaa is third at 162 points, with Ballmaster champion Kimmo Lehtonen, Finland, in fourth position at 140. Rounding out the top 8 are Yoan Alix, France; Peter Smits, Netherlands; Catalonia runner-up Rodrigo Hermes, Brazil and Ari Halme, Finland.

Penny, who finished fifth in Helsinki and 14th in Tilburg, jumped to the top with 178 ranking points. Krista Pöllänen, who has two second-place finishes this season, Helsinki and Barcelona, is in second place with 160 points.

Previous leader, Martina Beckel from Germany, ranking leader in Tilburg, and Ballmaster ranking leader Piritta Kantola, Finland, are tied for third place at 128 points. Luxembourg ranking leader Nicole Sanders, Netherlands, is fifth with 122 points.

Sixth place belonged to 3-time defending ranking champion Britt Brøndsted, Denmark, 116. Rounding out the top 8 are Ghislaine van der Tol and Priscilla Maaswinkel, both Netherlands, with 111 and 109 points, respectively.

The top eight men and the top eight women at the end of the ranking season will qualify for the 2008 World Ranking Masters at the Kegel Training Center in Lake Wales, Fla. In addition, the top 16 men and the top 16 women will qualify for the inaugural EBT Masters 2008 (read more).
