Palermaa, Penny widen the lead in European Rankings after Ankara

    2007EBT16OskuPalermaa.jpg 2007EBT16KirstenPenny.jpg 2007 European ranking leaders Osku Palermaa (left), Finland, and Kirsten Penny (right), England, finished second and fourth in the Ankara Open in Turkey, to widen the their lead in the men's and women's rankings.

    Palermaa earned 40 ranking points for his runner-up finish in the "EBT Challenger" tournament to hold a 60 point lead over 3-time defending ranking champions Paul Moor, England, with 657 to 597 ranking points.

    2007MOMartinLarsen_small.jpg 2007EBT16StuartWilliams_small.jpg Third-placed Martin Larsen (left), Sweden, is already 139 points behind Moor with 458 and has a comfortable 121 point lead over fourth-placed Pasi Uotila from Finland. World Ranking Masters champion Stuart Williams (right), England, the only player in Europe, who has cashed ranking points in all 14 tournaments this season (Rodovre and Viernheim were cancelled), sits in fifth position with 330 points.

    Rounding out the top 8 is the best player without a title, Jouni Helminen, Finland, with 236 points. Ankara Open champion Nick Froggatt, England, who won his second career EBT title, moved into 33rd place with 96 ranking points.

    Trailing Penny by 48 points is 3-time defending women's ranking champion Britt Brøndsted (right) with 520. The Dane finished third in the women's rankings in Ankara.

Rikke Holm Rasmussen (right), Denmark, is the only player without a ranking title among the top 8 in fifth position with 363 points.

    Rounding out the top 8 are two-time ranking champion Kamilla Kjeldsen, Denmark (315), Nicole Sanders, Netherlands (298) and Zara Glover, England (276).

    The top eight men and the top eight women at the end of the ranking season will qualify for the 2008 World Ranking Masters in Jakarta, Indonesia. In addition, the top 16 men and the top 16 women will qualify for the inaugural EBT Masters in September 2008 in Ankara.
