2007 European Ranking season is over
12/12/07
The 2007 European Ranking season concluded with the Storm English Open in Nuneaton, England, last weekend. The 2007 European Bowling Tour consisted of 18 tournaments, 12 classified as a "Major" tournament and six as a "Challenger".
Originally there were 21 tournaments on the schedule for the 2007 European Bowling Tour, but the Danish Masters (Denmark), the Viernheim Open (Germany) and the Kungsbacka International (Sweden) withdrew during the season.
Osku Palermaa, Finland and Kirsten Penny, England earned the men's and women's European Ranking titles for the first time in their careers. Palermaa is just the third men's champion in the eight-year history of the European Rankings after Gery Verbruggen, Belgium (2000-03) and Paul Moor, England (2004-06). Penny made history as she ended the winning streak of the Danish women, who dominated the women's rankings in the past seven years (Kamilla Kjeldsen, 2000, 2003; Bettina Lund, 2001-02; and Britt Brøndsted 2004-06).
Both defending champions, Moor and Brøndsted, finished in second place in the 2007 rankings.
Dominic Barrett, England and Nicole Sanders, Netherlands received 25 and 6 ranking points in Nuneaton to move from 9th to 8th place in the men's and women's rankings, respectively.
