Helen Johnsson wins women's stepladder finals and finishes fourth in Open

Sweden's Martin Larsen and Helen Johnsson finished third and fourth with Osku Palermaa, Finland, fifth. Johnson (r.) defeated compatriot Sandra Andersson, 266-212, to win the women's extra stepladder final.
The 112-player field in the 8th Kuwait International Open - 96 men and 16 women from 20 countries - was divided into four squads (A-D) to bowl three blocks of six games qualifying over three days. A total of 38 players survived the first cut.
In Monday's three six-game rounds the field was trimmed to 30, 23 and then 15 players who advanced to Round Five on Tuesday morning. Those 15 bowled four games with the pinfall total being carried forward into a "Modified Match Play Round" (3 bowlers on each pair of lanes. The winner of each match on a pair of lanes will receive 20 bonus pins while the second place will receive 10 bonus pins, total seven games). The top 5 after match play advanced to the stepladder finals.
