Grishinenko, Panchenko capture national titles in 2011 Kazakhstan Cup

    2011KAZCupYelenaGrishinenkoAlexandrPanchenko.jpgYelena Grishinenko (pictured left) of Almaty and Alexandr Panchenko (right) of Petropavlovsk captured the women's and men's titles in the 2011 Kazakhstan Cup which was held May 28-29 at Bowling Club Olimp in Almaty.

    The Kaz Cup drew 20 men and eight women. All players bowled 12 games of qualifying on dual lane condition to cut to the top eight players who advanced to round robin match play. After seven match play games the player with the highest 19-game total including bonus (20 pins per win, 5 for a tie; additional 5 pins bonus for each game from 200 to 249 and 10 pins for each game from 250 to 300) was declared the champion.

    Local favorite Grishinenko, a two-time Kazakhstan champion, dominated the women's field from the qualifying. The 34-year-old had a 1287 series on the 44 feet long pattern and a 1200 series on the 35 feet short pattern for 2487 qualifying total or an average of 207.25. Grishinenko held a 421 lead over second place team mate Olga Berillo who totaled 2066 pins, a 175.67 average.

    Grishinenko averaged 190.29 in match play and added 115 bonus pins to cruise to the title with 3934 pinfall total. Trailing Grishinenko by 596 pins to land in second place was Natalia Orlova of Astana with 3338. Yelena Izhboldina, Almaty and Berillo tied for third and forth place at 3272.

    15-year-old Panchenko had an 1184 series on long oil before he averaged 230 on short oil including his first career 300 game to take a 169 pin lead after qualifying with 2564 12-game total and an average of 213.67.

     




    Panchenko was the sole player who averaged over 200. Local bowler Gennadiy Vologin was second with 2395 (199.58) and German Roshonok, Olimp, third at 2386.

    2011KAZYCTop3.jpgPanchenko averaged 205.14 in match play including games of 179, 151, 245, 226, 199, 233 and 203 for 1436 and added 100 bonus pins to win his first career national title with 4100 pinfall total. Right after winning the adult title, Panchenko started in the Kazakhstan Youth Championship and claimed his second gold medal on that day (pictured right).

    Yuriy Sazonov, Olimp, leaped from fourth to second place with 3974 after averaging 208.29 in match play. Vologin slipped from second to third with 3911.

    Grishinenko and Panchenko will represent Kazakhstan in the 47th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup to be held Nov. 30 - Dec. 7, 2011 at Northcliff Bowling Center in Johannesburg, South Africa.
