Jason Belmonte, Kelly Kulick lead at 2013 U.S. Open after first round of qualifying

201213PBA15JasonBelmonte_small.jpg 2012EBT16KellyKulick_small.jpgAustralian two-hander Jason Belmonte (l.) made light work of the challenging lane condition at the 2013 Lipton Bowling's U.S. Open on Monday as he averaged more than 246 to lead the men's division after the first day of qualifying. The seven-time PBA titlist had a high game of 299 on the way to a 1969 eight-game total, almost 100 pins ahead of the field. In the women's division, defending champion Kelly Kulick (r.) of Union, N.J., leads with 1753.

Pete Weber, Kelly Kulick gear up for U.S. Open title defense

2013LITUSOpenLogo_small.jpg Pete Weber and Kelly Kulick have made their performances at the U.S. Open the cornerstone of their careers. The defending champions will have a chance to add to their legacy next week. The men and women will compete side by side at this year's Bowling's U.S. Open at three bowling centers in the Columbus, Ohio, area starting Monday. The event will culminate with the live two-hour ESPN finals on July 27. Both tournaments are World Bowling Tour "majors".

In an unprecedented moment for the U.S. Open brand, a first-ever "Battle of the Sexes" U.S. Open exhibition contest will take place during the finals at this year's competition. Announced today by the BPAA, following the completion of the men's and women's tournaments at the 2013 Bowling's U.S. Open, the male and female champions will compete in a historic contest to crown the ultimate Open winner live on ESPN on Saturday July 27, in Columbus, Ohio.

Lipton Iced Tea named title sponsor of 2013 Bowling's U.S. Open

2013LITUSOpenLogo_small.jpg The BPAA today revealed the official title sponsor of this year's highly anticipated Bowling's U.S. Open tournament Lipton Iced Tea. For the second year in row, the bowling industry has teamed up with the brand's ready-to-drink portfolio for a principal sponsorship deal to lead the industry's preeminent bowling tournament. The 2013 Bowling's U.S. Open will be held in Columbus, Ohio, beginning July 20, and will combine the Men's, Women's and Senior Women's tournaments.
