Singapore's mixed foursome capture Team gold at 6th Commonwealth Championship

    Australia's Sam Cooley and England's Lisa John win the men's and women's title in All Events

    2013CTBCTeamSingapore.jpg Singapore's Javier Tan, Bernice Lim, Geraldine Ng and Jaris Goh (pictured) totaled 5273 pins and averaged 219.71 for six games on two different lane condition en route to capture the gold medal in the Mixed Team event at the sixth Commonwealth Championship Friday at Pins Lincoln Bowling Center in Auckland, New Zealand.

    The mixed foursome rolled the highest three-game series on short oil (2648) and on long oil (2625) to beat out Australia for the top spot by 137 pins. Aussies Brendan Meads, Bec Whiting, Ann-Maree Putney and Sam Cooley took the silver medal with 5136 (214.00).

    Isaac Russell Paul, Siti Shazwani, Dayang Khairuniza and Rafiq Ismail secured the bronze medal for Malaysia with 5074 (211.42), while Team England with Christopher Oates, John Wells, Kirsten Penny and Lisa John had to settle for fourth place with 5057 (210.71).

    Australia's Sam Cooley posted another huge 1424 series to cruise to the gold medal in Men's All Events. The Aussie, who has also won the Singles title, totaled 5590 pins, an average of 232.92 for 24 games. Jaris Goh of Singapore used the highest series of the day (1425) to maintain second place and to earn the silver medal with 5300 (220.83).

    John Wells of England finished the team event with a huge 258 game to beat out Isaac Russell Paul of Malaysia for the bronze medal by two pins, 5209 to 5207.

    Lisa John of England posted the highest individual women's series to stay atop the All Events leaderboard and to earn the gold medal with 5052 and an average of 210.50. Geraldine Ng of Singapore leaped from sixth to second place in the Team event to take the silver medal with 4961 (206.71).

    Siti Shazwani maintained a slim 9-pin lead over Julieanne Mollet to secure the bronze medal with 4951 (202.29) The New Zealander had to settle for fourth place with 4941 (205.92).

    The top 12 men and women in the All Events advanced to the Masters event, which will conclude the Championships on Saturday and Sunday.

    2013CTBCLogo_small.jpg This is the sixth edition of the biennial championship which is open to all federations that are members of the Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Federation (CTBF). Each team consists of two men and two women (Gibraltar has sent two men only).

    Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded in Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Mixed Teams, All Events and Masters.
