Mikhail Belenky moves into second place at RedExpress Russian Open

    Ukrainian Mykhaylo Kalika continues to lead the 135-player field; cut for 32nd place is now 1213 (202.17 average)

    2012BWCMykhayloKalika.jpgMikhail Belenky of Russia averaged 225 in the sixth qualifying squad of the RedExpress Russian Open Thursday at Cosmik Belay Dacha in Moscow en route to move into second place in the overall qualifying standings.

    Belenky, who had games of 236, 245, 207, 243, 235 and 184, trails tournament leader, Mykhaylo Kalika (pictured left), by 44 pins. The Ukrainian posted a 1394 series, an average of 232.33, in Thursday morning's squad 5 and continued to lead the 135-player field from eight countries.

    Squad 1 leader Maksim Okorokov of Russia sits in third place with 1330 and is followed by his compatriots Igor Filipov (1326) and Yan Korshak (1321) in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

    Russians Daria Voronkova and Maria Bulanova are the best of 31 women in the field in sixth and seventh place, respectively, with 1320 and 1319 including 48 pins women's handicap.

    With the final four qualifying squads to go on Friday, Artem Kharkov of Russia holds the 32nd and last spot to advance with 1213 and an average of 202.17.

    Qualifying continues Friday, September 13, with squads 9-12 scheduled to start at 9 a.m., 1, 5 and 9 p.m. Moscow Standard Time (CEST +2) and concludes with the one-game Desperado Squad slated for half past Midnight.

    2013EBT12RussianOpenLogo_small.jpg The RedExpress Russian Open is the third of seven EBT "Satellite" tournaments this season and runs from Sept. 10-14 at 30-lane Cosmik Belay Dacha in Moscow, Russia. The Russian Open offers total prize fund of 25.000 Euro with 5.500 Euro going to the winner, 3.800 to the runner-up and 2.500 and 2.000 Euro for the third and fourth place finishers respectively.

    Qualifying (six-game series, unlimited re-entries) runs from Tuesday, Sept. 10 through Friday, Sept. 13 with the last Squad 12 scheduled for 9 p.m. local time (CET +2) and concludes with the Desperado Squad slated for 12.30 a.m. on Saturday morning. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game throughout the entire event, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.

    A total of 36 players advance to the finals on Saturday, Sept. 14 including the top 32 players from the qualifying standings and the top 4 from the Desperado Squad. The top 8 qualifiers earn one bye and will be seeded first thru eighth in Round Two.

    The other 28 players bowl four games starting from scratch with the top 8 advancing to the second round seeded 9th through 16th.

    The remaining 16 players determine the champion in single-elimination rounds with the two-game total to determine the winner. The highest seeded player bowls the lowest seeded player, the second-highest seeded player bowls the second-lowest seeded player, etc.

    The field will be trimmed to eight and then four players. The winners of the semifinal matches bowl for the title and the 5.500 top prize, while the losers meet in a roll-off for third and fourth place.

    2013EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2013 European Bowling Tour consists of 19 tournaments in 13 countries including two Platinum, six Gold, four Silver and seven Satellite events.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event earn ranking points based on how they finish. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament such as the RedExpress Russian Open gets 50 ranking points.

    Points are tabulated throughout the season and the top 12 men and the top 12 women qualify for the seventh EBT Masters to be held March 3, 2014 at Dolfijn Bowling in Tilburg, Netherlands immediately following the EBT Hammer Bronzen Schietspoel Tournament 2014.
