Heidi Thorstensen becomes first woman to crack the 1300-bar at Norwegian Open

    Norwegian rolls 1301 series to move into 8th place with 1349 total; Iceland's Arnar David Jonsson holds on to the lead with 1493; cut for 42nd place is 1184 (197.33 average incl. hdcp)

    2013EBT16HeidiThorstensen.jpgHeidi Thorstensen (pictured left) became the first woman in the Norwegian Open 2013 by Brunswick who cracked the 1300-bar when she rolled a 1301-series Tuesday at Veitvet Bowling Center in Oslo.

    The Norwegian national team member averaged 216.83 in Squad 8 including games of 246, 194, 234, 202, 202 and 223 and added 48 pins handicap, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour, to move into eighth place in the overall qualifying standings with 1349 total.

    The top 8 players at the end of the qualifying will receive three byes.

Norwegians Bjørn Einar Rudshagen (right) and Lars-Christian Nygård remained in second and third place with 1446 and 1413, respectively.

    Mikael Roos is the best Swedish bowler in fourth place with 1404. Norwegian internationals Fredrik Tjernes and Glenn Morten Pedersen sit in fifth and sixth place with 1404 and 1399. Seventh place belonged to Kevin Karlsson (right) of Sweden with 1375.

    2007EBT12FrodeAaneby.jpgDespite a 168 final game, Frode Jørgen Aaneby (left), Norway, was second to Thorstensen in Squad 8 with 1284, a 214 average, but failed to improve his high series. Aaneby slipped one spot to 10th place with 1325.

    2013EBT16LineBergAlmestrand.jpgAnother four Norwegians moved into the top 42. Sigbjørn Eide leaped into 24th place with 1233 while Runar Almestrand and Thorbjørn Gard Hansen took over 34 and 41st place with 1205 and 1188, respectively.

    Line Berg Almestrand (right), Norway, had 1184, an average of 197.33 including handicap, to sit in 42nd place and last place to advance to Sunday's finals.

    Qualifying continues Wednesday, Oct. 9 with Squad 9 scheduled for 6 p.m. CEST.

    2013NorwegianOpenLogo.jpg The Norwegian Open 2013 by Brunswick is the 16th stop of the 2013 European Bowling Tour and the fifth out of seven EBT "Satellite" events this season. The tournament will be held from Oct. 4-13, 2013 at 26-lane Veitvet Bowling Center in Oslo, Norway.

    As a result of a sponsorship agreement with Brunswick, the NO 2013 has increased the total prize fund to 224.000 NOK (currently 27.625 Euro). The winner will receive 35.000 NOK (4.315 Euro) and the runner-up gets 20.000 NOK (2.465 Euro).

    BowlingdigitalBanner.gif Bowlingdigital will cover the Norwegian Open 2013 by Brunswick live from Veitvet Bowling Center in Oslo with stories and results after each round commencing Thursday, October 10, all the way through to the finals. The finals will be on Sunday, October 13, completed in the late afternoon.

    The qualifying of the Norwegian Open runs from Friday, Oct. 4 through Saturday, Oct. 12 with the final Squad 18 scheduled for 5 p.m. local time (CEST). Women receive 8 pins handicap each game, a standard on the European Bowling Tour

    In a change for 2013 the last qualifying squad on Saturday evening was replaced by two semifinal rounds and the top 60 instead of the top 40 players will cash.

    A total of 60 players will advance to the finals on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 12 & 13:
    • the top 42 players from the overall qualifying standings
    • two players from a separate leaderboard of Squad 1-7, who are not among the top 42
    • the next four women
    • the next four juniors (must not be born before Sept. 1, 1995)
    • the next four seniors (must be 50 years of age at the first day of the tournament)
    • and two players each from the Turbo 1 and 2 list (highest score in qualifying game 5 and 6, respectively; separate fee necessary).

    The top 8 qualifiers are qualified for Round 4, places 9-16 go to Round 3, places 17-24 start in Round 2 and places 25-28 begin in Round 1. The other 32 finalists advance to Saturday's Semifinal Round 1 which begins at 9 p.m. CEST.

    The top 24 players after three game scratch advance to the Semifinal Round 2, which gets underway at 10:30 p.m. Those bowl another three games with the pinfall carried over. The top 12 qualify for Final Round 1 starting on Sunday morning at 9 a.m.

    The remaining forty players will determine the champion in five three-game rounds. The field will be trimmed from 40 to 32, 24, 16, and then eight who bowl a final three-game block with the pinfall from Round 4 carried forward.

    The player with the highest six-game total will earn the EBT title, 50 ranking points and the 35.000 NOK top prize.

    2013EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2013 European Bowling Tour consists of 19 stops in 13 countries including two Platinum, six Gold, four Silver and seven Satellite tournaments.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament such as the Norwegian Open 2013 by Brunswick gets 50 ranking points.

    The top 12 men and the top 12 women at the end of the 2013 season qualify for the seventh EBT Masters to be held March 3, 2014 at Dolfijn Bowling in Tilburg, Netherlands immediately following the Hammer Bronzen Schietspoel Tournament 2014.
