Men's World Championship 2008 getting ready for the action

    2008MWCLogo.jpg More than 300 of the best amateur bowlers from over 50 countries in the world plus some of the most decorated professional bowlers are getting ready for the action at the 2008 Men's World Championship.

    For the first time in the history of the bowling sport, professionals are allowed to participate in the championships which will be held at SF Strike Bowl Ngamwongwan in Nonthaburi, Bangkok, Thailand.

    The official practice started on Thursday morning at 9 a.m. local time with Squad 1. Squads 2 and 3 will follow at noon and 3 p.m. The championships will be officially declared open by Mr. Weerasak Kohsurat, Minister of Tourism and Sport, during the Opening Ceremonies scheduled for 7-9 p.m. this evening.

    The Thai Tenpin Bowling Association will host the second Men's World Championship from August 21-31, 2008 at SF Strike Bowl Ngamwongwan. The 42-laner with AMF equipment is located on the 7th Floor of a shopping center in Nonthaburi, approx. 30 minutes away from down town Bangkok. The 5-star Chaophya Park Hotel & Resorts in Bangkok was chosen as the official hotel.

    57 countries - Australia, Bahamas, Bahrain; Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Chinese Taipei, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Egypt, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Kuwait, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Moldova, Netherlands, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Puerto Rico, Qatar, Russia, Scotland, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, UAE, United States, Uzbekistan, Venezuela. And the host country, Thailand - will participate in the event.

    All countries but Jordan (3) and Slovakia (3) have sent a full team which brings the total number of players to 336. Maximum six players per team will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in six disciplines: Singles, Doubles, Trios, 5-player Team, All Events and Masters. Singles (six games on long oil) and Doubles (six games on short oil) will be contested on one oil pattern, while Trios and Team will feature two oil patterns (3 games each on long and short oil).

    The top four players and teams after six games in Singles, Doubles, Trios and Team, respectively, will advance to the semifinals. The winners of a single-game match will determine the world champion.

    Latest News: All Semifinals and the finals will be broadcasted live on Thai TV. Therefore the semis will NOT be contested simultaneously as originally planned and the time schedule has to be adjusted accordingly.
