Eoff pulls away in men's division as field is cut to top 8 in 44th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup

    Stott beats out Konsteri by one pin for 8th place in men's Round of 24

    2008BWCDerekEoff.jpg Derek Eoff (pictured left) from the United States widened his lead 173 pins in the Round of 24 of the 44th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup Thursday at Bol 300 in Hermosillo, Mexico.

    The 2-time Team USA member posted the sole 1900-plus series over 8 games averaging 237.88 en route to lead the top 8 men into round robin match play with 7403 pinfall total and an average of 231.34 over 32 games.

    2008BWCZulmazranZulkifli300_small.jpg Zulmazran Zulkifli (right) from Malaysia rolled the fifth 300 game of the tournament and the 43rd in the history of the World Cup in the second game today, 26th overall, en route to finish in second place with 7230 (225.94).

    2008BWCMartinLarsen_small.jpg Third place belonged to Martin Larsen f(left) rom Sweden, who checked in with 7213 (225.41).

    While the top three players bowled in their own league, the next seven players battled it out for the remaining five spots to advance to the next round.

    Heading into the 32nd and final game, the 10th place bowler was merely 69 pins away from fourth place:
    4. Leonidas Maragkos, Greece, +48; 5. Jack Guay, Canada, +22; 6. Hussain Al Suwaidi, UAE, +8; 7. Luis Rodríguez, Puerto Rico, +7; 8. Francois Sacco, France, 0: 9. Sami Konsteri, Finland -17; and 10. Paul Stott, Ireland, -21.

    (left) rolled a 225 game to secure fifth place with 7018 (219.31).

    ' (right) 235 was good enough for sixth place with 7013 (219.16).

    Maragkos had the only sub-200 game (184) but landed in seventh with 7003 (218.38).

    2008BWCKontasStott.jpg 2008BWCSamiKonsteri3_small.jpg Konsteri (left) chalked up 233 and overtook Sacco, who had 200, but Stott  finished with 238 to beat out Konsteri for the 8th and final qualifying post by one pin, 6988 to 6987.

    Sacco had to settle for 10th place with 6971 or an average of 217.84. It was a heart-breaking day tor Francois and his wife Isabelle , who missed the cut to the women's top 8 in 9th place by 8 pins.

    The advancing players will bowl an eight-game round robin match play round, this afternoon at 3 p.m. (concurrently with the women's top 8) to determine the top 3 who will bowl for the title in Friday's live TV finals.

According to European Sport Channel Eurosport2, the men's finals will be broadcasted live on Friday, Nov. 14, starting at 10.30 p.m. CET while the women's finals will be recorded and broadcasted on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 8.30 - 10 p.m. (updated schedule)
