IV Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championships to start this Sunday

    2008CTBCLogo_small.jpg The IV Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championships will start this Sunday, November 23rd, in Dundonald International Ice Bowl in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The Championships will be officially opened at 3pm with the introduction of all the 17 participating countries: Australia, Bahamas, Canada, Cyprus, England, Gibraltar, Guernsey, India, Jersey, Malaysia, Malta, New Zealand, Pakistan, Scotland, Singapore, Wales and the host country of Northern Ireland.

    Spectators will be treated to a performance from the Northern Ireland drum group who will play a selection on drums ranging from the lambeg to the bodhran. The piper will lead all guests and athletes to the function suite upstairs where guests will be entertained by a jazz band and a finger buffet will be supplied. Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Federation (CTBF) President, Julian Pace-Bonello, from Malta will be in attendance.

    Northern Ireland's Sports Minister Gregory Campbell has already recognized the prestige of this event, and has invited all participants and officials to Stormont Parliament Buildings for a welcome reception on Monday 24th November at 7.15pm.

    2008BWCZaraGloverBronze_small.jpg 2008EBT05RemyOng2_small.jpg Among the favorites competing in the championships are 3-time World Champion Zara Glover, (left) who finished 3rd last weekend in the 44th QubicaAMF World Cup, 3-time European ranking champion Paul Moor, both England, World and Asian Games champion Remy Ong (right) and World Ranking Masters champion Jennifer Tan, both from Singapore.

    Northern Ireland's hopes are on Billy Nimick (Belfast) and Kevin Horton (Londonderry) who will be looking for a medal for the third time in the doubles event.

    All players, maximum two men and two women from each country, will compete for medals in men's and women's Singles and Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Team as well as in men's and women's All Events and Masters.

    Two patterns from the Kegel Navigation series have been selected for the championships: Boardwalk (short oil, 35ft.) and Route 66 (long oil, 45ft.). The stepladder finals of the Masters will be played on dual condition.
