Singapore bags another gold medal in Mixed Doubles at IV Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championship

    2008CTBCJazreelTanRemyOng.jpg Jazreel Tan and Remy Ong (l-r) from Singapore captured the gold medal in Mixed Doubles on the third day of competition in the IV Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championship Wednesday at Dundonald International Ice Bowl in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

    Needing a score of 440 in the final game, the duo felled 451 pins to win the title with championship record of 2778 six-game total and an average of 231.50.

    Highlight of the series was the record-breaking 557shot in game #4 when Tan posted a 289 game and Ong contributed 268.

    2008CTBCMohdNurAimanSinLiJane.jpg Silver and bronze went to the doubles from Malaysia. Singles champions Sin Li Jane and Mohd Nur Aiman (right) led on their favorite long oil pattern until the final game and had to settle for second place with 2766 (230.50).

    2008CTBCSyakirahYeohSyafiqRidhwan.jpg Their team mates Syakirah Yeoh and Syafiq Ridhwan (left) fired a 454 in the last game to beat out England's Zara Glover and Darren Cundy for the bronze medal, 2656 to 2614.

    Glover and Nur Aiman held on to the lead in All Events after 18 of 24 games. Players return on Thursday for the mixed four-player team event.

    64 players - 32 men and 32 women - from 16 Commonwealth countries, Australia, Bahamas, Canada, Cyprus, England, Gibraltar, Guernsey, India, Jersey, Malaysia, Malta, New Zealand, Scotland, Singapore, Wales and the host Northern Ireland participate in the championships.
