Extraordinary Conference of FIQ on Aug. 10th, 2010 in Munich

FIQ Logo.jpg2009USBCKevinDornberger.jpgThe president of World Tenpin Bowling Association (WTBA, Kevin Dornberger (pictured right), United States, and the President of World Ninepin Bowling Association (WNBA), Ludwig Kocsis, Austria, have made discussions in several conversations and meetings about the future of the Federation Internationale des Quilleurs (FIQ) and/or Tenpin and Ninepin.

The result of these conversations is a proposal which was sent to all WTBA and WNBA member federations. Both Dornberger and Kocsis signed the letter in which they stated that they "made an effort to create a realistic and especially financial achievable reform, in which the issues of the FIQ should be clearly regulated and what status Tenpin and Ninepin, especially in sport sector, should have."

The proposal should be discussed at the Extraordinary Conference of FIQ which is organized in conjunction with the Men's World Championship at Dream-Bowl Palace in Unterföhring near Munich, Germany (Aug. 11-22, 2010).

It is proposed that revisions be made to the statutes of FIQ, will become effective Sept. 1, 2011.

Many sections from the statutes which are basically from the 1950s will be revised, renumbered or just deleted, yet the basics remain unchanged.

FIQ shall include two separate membership disciplines known as The World Tenpin Bowling Association (WTBA) and The World Ninepin Bowling Association (WNBA). The corporation is organized and shall be operated exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, and to foster national and international sports competition.

Authority to govern each sport discipline should reside with that particular discipline (WNBA, WTBA). The primary function of FIQ should be as the representative of the sport, and all its disciplines, to the recognized international sport federations, such as IOC, GAISF and SportAccord.

The FIQ Presidium will be made up of 7 instead of 11 members:
    • The WTBA President, who shall also serve as the FIQ President
    • The WTBA President, who shall also serve as Vice President, and who shall substitute for the FIQ President when necessary.
    • Four elected representatives of WTBA
    • One elected representatives of WNBA

Regarding World Championships and World Tours, a new Section 10.14 should be added which says:
In order to assist in the promotion of the disciplines, the WTBA and WNBA presidents shall use good faith efforts to hold jointly the WTBA and WNBA World Championships and World Tour stops in the same location at the same time.

The WTBA and WTBA presidents are asking the member federations to think about their proposals and thoughts and also to support these in Germany accordingly.
