Ong, White conclude 5th Commonwealth Championship with victory in Masters

    2011CTBCLogo.jpg Singapore's Remy Ong and Hayley White, England, won the third gold medal for their respective country when they concluded the 5th Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championship with victory in men's and women's Masters Sunday at Sunway Megalanes in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

    Ong, seeded third, defeated No. 2 seed Matt Chamberlain, England, in the semifinal, 197-161, and went on to defeat No. 1 seed Adrian Ang, Malaysia, in the title match, 209-161.

    On the women's side, White, seeded first, topped No. 3 Shayna Ng, Singapore, to wrap up the title, 217-192. Ng flew past No. 2 Nicki Ainge in the semifinal, 264-191, to deny Ainge's bid for an All-English final.

    25 men and 26 women from 13 countries - Australia, Bermuda, Brunei, England, India, Malaysia, Malta, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Singapore, South Africa and Wales - participated in the 5th Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championship.

    Singapore and England led the medal tally with three gold medals each. Besides Ong's victory in Men's Masters, the Singaporeans captured the titles in Women's Doubles and in the Mixed Team event and added two silver medals. England added the gold medals in Men's Doubles and in the Mixed Doubles and one silver and to bronze medals to White's gold medal in Women's Masters.

    Malaysia won both Singles titles and had another three silver and three bronze medals. Australia took one silver and one bronze, while Malta had one silver. India and South Africa took back home one bronze medal each.
