Masters Champion Anthony Simonsen joins 2016 Team USA

2016PBA04AnthonySimonsen_small.jpgAnthony Simonsen of Princeton, Texas, who earned a spot on Junior Team USA at the United States Bowling Congress Team USA Trials in January, has been added to the Team USA roster for 2016. Simonsen finished sixth at the 2016 Team USA Trials, shortly after he captured his first Professional Bowlers Association title at the Mark Roth/Marshall Holman PBA Doubles Championship and earned a sixth-place finish at the 2015 U.S. Open. In February, Simonsen, 19, became the youngest major title winner when he won the USBC Masters.

New York, Florida bowlers earn Youth Ambassador Honor

2016USBCYouthAmbassadorJennaRoseHarrington_small.jpg2016USBCYouthAmbassadorDanielBolan_small.jpg Jenna Rose Harrington (l.) of Barneveld, New York, and Daniel Bolan (r.) of Orlando, Florida, have been selected as the 2016 USBC Youth Ambassadors of the Year. The IBC Youth Committee annually honors one male and one female USBC Youth bowler for their contributions to the sport, academic achievement and community involvement. Both will receive a $1,500 scholarship and may be selected to serve on the IBC Youth Committee.

U.S Team selected for 2016 PABCON Champion of Champions

2016PABCONLogo_small.jpgTeam USA's Tommy Jones, Chris Via, Stefanie Johnson and Shannon Pluhowsky have been selected to represent the United States at the Pan American Bowling Confederation Champion of Champions event in Puebla, Mexico. A total of 25 countries have been invited to compete at Noria Pro Bowling from April 22-26. The top three countries in both the men's and women's field automatically will qualify for the 2017 World Games, which will be held in Wroclaw, Poland.

Field determined for 2016 Intercollegiate Team Championships

2016ITCLogo_small.jpg The 16 men's and 16 women's bowling teams that will compete for the Helmer Cup at the 2016 Intercollegiate Team Championships were determined at four sectional qualifiers held over the weekend.The 2016 Intercollegiate Team Championships will take place April 20-23 at Northrock Lanes in Wichita, Kansas, for the second consecutive year. Both the men's and women's championship round will be taped for broadcast on CBS Sports Network in May.

Field determined for 2016 Intercollegiate Singles Championships

The 24 men and 16 women who will compete for individual national titles at the 2016 Intercollegiate Singles Championships were determined at four sectional qualifiers held Friday. The 2016 ISC will be held April 19 and 23 at Northrock Lanes in Wichita, Kansas. At Friday's sectionals, all participants bowled six games with the top four women at each sectional advancing to the national event. The men's advancers were determined based on the number of entries at each sectional.

U.S. Open to take place in Las Vegas this fall

The 2016 U.S. Open will take place at the South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas this fall. The tournament has a tentative start date of Oct. 31, with the specific date for the live broadcast of the stepladder finals on CBS Sports Network still to be determined. The U.S. Open is part of USBC's agreement with CBS Sports Network to televise 23 major championship bowling events in 2016. The event's estimated prize fund will be $250,000, which includes $100,000 added.

Missouri youth to receive Annual Zeb Scholarship

Dakota Miller of Potosi, Missouri, who is completing his senior year at Kingston High School, has been selected to receive the United States Bowling Congress Annual Zeb Scholarship for 2016. The $2,500 scholarship award is presented each year to a USBC Youth member who is a junior or senior in high school, has strong academic success and has given back to their community through service. The winner is selected by the International Bowling Campus Youth Committee.

Five youth bowlers to receive Earl Anthony Scholarship

Five USBC Youth members have been selected to receive the 2016 Earl Anthony Memorial Scholarship in recognition of their academic achievements and community service. The International Bowling Campus Youth Committee determined the recipients of the Earl Anthony Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded in honor of the late USBC and Professional Bowlers Association Hall of Famer who was dedicated to assisting youth bowlers. The 2016 award winners each will receive a $5,000 scholarship.

2016 USBC Open Championships gets going in Reno

2016OCRibbonCutting2_small.jpg Reno has hosted the USBC Open Championships more than any other city, and the tournament's latest visit kicked off Saturday with a mix of tradition and flair. The National Bowling Stadium opened its doors to the Open Championships for the 10th time, marking the event's record 13th trip to Reno, and the first of nearly 8,000 five-player teams made the ceremonial march down Center Aisle. The Opening-Day festivities included a ribbon-cutting, traditional Mass Ball Shot Ceremony and live entertainment.

USBC Queens, Senior Queens set for Baton Rouge in 2017

2016USBCQueensSeniorQueensLogo_small.jpg The 2017 United States Bowling Congress Queens and Senior Queens will be held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, taking place in the same custom facility that will play host to the 2017 USBC Women's Championships. The 2017 USBC Queens and Senior Queens will take place concurrently from May 17-23 at the Baton Rouge River Center, the site for the 2017 Women's Championships. The Queens is a major event on the Professional Women's Bowling Association Tour.

Ohio's Joyce Latham named USBC Youth Volunteer of the Year

2016USBCYouthVolunteeroftheYearJoyceLatham_small.jpg Joyce Latham of Columbus, Ohio, who became a bowling coach more than 20 years ago, has been selected to receive the 2016 United States Bowling Congress Youth Volunteer of the Year Award. The prestigious national award recognizes an adult volunteer who has displayed outstanding efforts to foster, organize and promote youth bowling at the local, state and/or national levels. Latham will receive an expenses-paid trip to the USBC Convention, scheduled for April 26-29 in Las Vegas, where she will be presented the award.

With seven wins out of eight, the Hawks covered their end of the bargain, then got the help they needed from division rivals to overtake Delaware State in the final stretch to claim first place and their sixth straight divisional crown.

New Average Integrity Rules announced for 2017 USBC Open Championships

2015USBCLogo_small.jpgThe 2017 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships will feature new average requirement rules that will use additional data to strengthen the integrity of the tournament's divisions. A central feature of the new rules will be the use of participants' Open Championships tournament average to help place bowlers in the correct divisions. The new rules will require teams to set rosters 14 days in advance of participation, so tournament staff can have time to evaluate and verify averages.

Three-peat for Lady Shox at 2016 Hoosier Classic

Wichita State women and Lindenwood men win the largest event of the collegiate bowling season

2016HoosierClassicLogo_small.jpg The Wichita State women's bowling team and the men's team from Lindenwood won the 2016 Hoosier Classic title Sunday, Feb. 21 in Indianapolis, Ind., with 78 men's teams and 66 women's team the largest event of the collegiate bowling season. In a rematch of last year's women's title match, the top seeded Lady Shox defeated No. 3 seed Newman University, 4-2. In the men's finals, No. 2 seed Lindenwood topped No. 4 Webber International, 4-2, to record the victory.

2016 World Bowling Coach Conference set for May at ITRC

In conjunction with World Bowling, the world governing body for the sport of bowling, the ITRC staff will host the three-day conference from May 6-8 in Arlington, Texas.

Indiana's Erica Cutler sets two USBC women's scoring records

2016EricaCutler889_small.jpg Erica Cutler of Fort Wayne, Indiana, threw 34 consecutive strikes Sunday at the Fort Wayne USBC Women's Bowling Association City Tournament, and the performance helped her break two national scoring records. The 33-year-old right-hander started her doubles set with a 4-7 spare conversion and then struck on her next 34 shots, before leaving a 7 pin on her final attempt. Cutler recorded games of 290, 300 and 299 for an 889 series, besting the previous mark of 879, shared by Katie Verbil and Bryanna Coté.

Floridian Allen Solomon is 2016 David Dahms Coach of the Year Award recipient

The David Dahms Coach of the Year Award recognizes a United States Bowling Congress-certified coach who has been actively involved in a USBC Youth program and has demonstrated outstanding commitment to coaching, sportsmanship and knowledge of USBC Youth rules.

USBC Masters returns to Las Vegas in 2017 as part of Open Championships experience

2016USBCMastersLogo_small.jpg The 2017 United States Bowling Congress Masters will take place in Las Vegas for just the fourth time, and the event once again will be in the same host city as the USBC Open Championships. The 2017 USBC Masters, a major tournament on the Professional Bowlers Association Tour, will take place Feb. 19-26 at The Orleans, a 70-lane center. The Masters, first held in 1951, has been part of the USBC Open Championships for most of its history.

Recipients selected for USBC National Recognition Awards

2015USBCLogo_small.jpgRhonda Swaim of Harvest, Alabama, Jamie Brooks of Fort Worth, Texas, and Jon Tang and Tom Burke of Beaverton, Oregon, have been named USBC National Recognition Awards recipients for 2016. Swaim was selected to receive the USBC Helen Baker Award for Outstanding Association Service, Brooks will be honored with the USBC Joyce Deitch Unity Award, while Tang and Burke have been selected for the USBC Proprietor of the Year Award for their work at Sunset Lanes.
