Peter Hellström cruises to victory at 2012 Norwegian Open by Brunswick

2012EBT17Podium_small.jpgPeter Hellström (2nd from left) averaged 249 for his last six games to cruise to victory at the Norwegian Open 2012 by Brunswick Sunday at Veitvet Bowling Center in Oslo, Norway. The Swede sealed the victory with a huge 275 in game six and received 30.000 Norwegian Kronor for his second career EBT title. Britt Brøndsted of Denmark finished second and Mikael Roos of Sweden third. The tournament drew 180 players, 149 men and 31 women, from ten countries.

Peter Hellström leads top 8 into the final round at Norwegian Open

Second place belonged Britt Brøndsted (r.) of Denmark, who finished her 738 series with the second 300 game of the tournament. Svein Åke Ek is the lone Norwegian in the last round after rebounding from a 165 first game with 288 and 210 for 709. The players will carry over the fourth round pinfall.

Norway's Tore Torgersen rules Final Round 3 at Norwegian Open

Swedish youth national team member Filip Wilhelmsson (r.) was second with 685 followed by Joline Persson-Planefors (665), Sweden, and Kamilla Kjeldsen (660), Denmark, who bring the number of women in the Round of 16 to four.

Markus Karlsson continues hot hand to lead in Final Round 2 at Norwegian Open

Christian Karlsson (r.), Sweden, rolled a 274 final game to jump from 15th to 7th place with 659. Six Swedes including 2011 women's EBT point ranking leader Joline Persson-Planefors, Norway's Monica Lislien and Denmark's Kamilla Kjeldsen in eighth place (646) made the third cut and will meet qualifiers 9-16 in the third round.

Swede Markus Karlsson shoots two big games to lead Final Round 1 in Oslo

Norwegian women's national team members Heidi Thorstensen and Monica Lislien (r.) had high games of 276 and 267 to make the second cut in second and third position with 736 and 704, respectively. The top 8 will meet qualifiers 17-24 in the second round.

Rebecka Larsen waits until the last minute to win qualifying at Norwegian Open

Swede shoots the tournament's first 1500-series to beat out 18-year-old Tanner Spacey for the top spot by 66 pins; cut for 36th place is 1319 (219.83 average)

2012EBT17RebeckaLarsen_small.jpgTwo-time European champion Rebecka Larsen (pictured) of Sweden waited until the last squad to make the cut for Sunday's finals in the Norwegian Open 2012 by Brunswick at Veitvet Bowling Center in Oslo, Norway. Larsen posted a 1538 series including 48 pins handicap averaging 248.33 scratch for six games en route to win the qualifying and to earn three byes for the finals. Total 40 players advanced to the finals which will start on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. CEST. The cut for 36th place at 1319, an average of 219.83.

With the final squad to go on Saturday evening, Thomas Fredrik Fagerstrøm of Norway holds the in 36th and last place to advance with 1303 or an average of 217.17.

The son of Swedish standout Raymond Jansson had games of 249, 247, 186, 266, 216 and 191. He was the only player of that squad, who scored high enough for the top 36. 18-year old Tanner Spacey, United States, continued to lead the 177-player field from nine countries with 1472 (245.33).

The European champion in Trios in 2011 started his set with games of 237, 226 and 207 before he closed things out with 256, 255 and 255, an average of 239.33, to beat out Raymond Jansson of Sweden by two pins.

2012NorwegianOpenLogo_small.jpgSwedish youth national team members Pontus Andersson and Filip Wilhelmsson as well as fellow countryman Simon Ă–stberg were the only players in Squad 8 on Thursday night, who surpassed the 1300-mark en route to move into the top 15 in the qualifying of the Norwegian Open 2012. Andersson had to settle for sixth place with 1375 total behind a low game of 153 in game six. Wilhelmsson finished with 1357 (226.17) to move into seventh place overall.

The 18-year-old right-hander started with games of 247, 252, 221 and 197, then switched from a 16 lbs. to a 15 lbs. bowling ball and closed out his set with 255 and 300 to tale a 49-pin lead with 1472 total and an average of 245.33. Previous leader Mikael Roos of Sweden fell to second place with 1423.
