Sweden targets gold medals #3 and #4 at 4th Women's European Championships

    Swedish fivesome lead Team event after 3/6 games; Rebecka Larsen overtakes lead in All Events after 21/24 games

    2012WECTEamSweden.jpgDoubles and Trios gold medalist Sweden targets two more gold medals in the 4th Women's European Championships as the Swedish five-player team took a commanding 151-pin lead after the first block of the Team event Wednesday.

    Rebecka Larsen, Joline Persson-Planefors, Elin Adolfsson, Ida Andersson and Sandra Andersson (from top right counter clockwise) rolled games of 1059, 1099 and 1089 to lead the 26 countries after three games on medium oil with 3247 and an average of 216.47.

    2012WECTeamEngland.jpgLarsen led the way with 745 including games of 238, 238 and 269 en route to overtake the lead in All Events with 4738 and an average of 225.62 for 21 games. Previous leader Krista PöllÀnen, Finland, slipped to second place with 4736. Third place belonged to Persson-Planefors with 4718. With three more games in the team event to go, fourth place Birgit Pöppler, Germany, is already 161 pins off the pace for the medals with 4557.

    2012WECTeamIsrael2.jpgEngland (pictured right) will start the second block of three games on the long oil pattern in second place with 3096 (206.40). Israel (left) finished the first day with a huge 1086 game to overtake second place with 3056 (203.73).

    2012WECTeamGermany.jpgRounding out the top 4, who will advance to the finals after the six-game preliminaries, was Germany (right) with 3050 (203.33).

    Another three teams averaged over 200 to trail Germany by less than 30 pins. The Ukraine was mere two pins behind in fifth place with 3048 (203.20). Sixth place belonged to Denmark with 3020 (201.33) including 1090 in the opening game. Seventh place Italy checked in with 3019 (201.27).

    All teams will return on Thursday for the second block on the long oil pattern. The top four teams will advance to the semifinals starting Thursday at 7.30 p.m. CEST. The top 3 in All Events (combined individual scores in Doubles, Trios and Teams) will earn gold, silver and bronze and lead the top 24 players into the Masters finals on Friday and Saturday.

    2012WECLogo.jpg The 2012 Women's European Championships will be held from June 6 through 17 at Dolfijn Bowling in Tilburg, Netherlands.

    Record 153 players from 27 out of 49 European Tenpin Bowling Federation (ETBF) member federations - Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Catalonia, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, Scotland, Slovenia, South Africa, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine and the host country Netherlands - participate in the event.

    Each team consisted of maximum six players, who competed for gold, silver and bronze medals in Doubles (12 games), Trios (6), Teams (6), All Events (24-game total) and Masters (top 24 in All Events, single-elimination, best-of-three games).

    The ETBF Technical Delegate and Kegel, the official lane maintenance partner of ETBF, have decided the two oil patterns which will be used during the 2012 Women European Championships. The medium pattern is 38 feet long while the long pattern has a length of 44 feet.
