The cream of the crop of Asian Bowlers to meet in Hong Kong

    2012 Asian Championships

    128 men and 87 women will fight for the glory of their countries and territories

     For the fourth time, Hong Kong is hosting the Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships at Hong Kong Bowling City from September 2 to 11, 2012. Hong Kong first hosted the Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships in 1988, and then in 2002 as well as in 2008.

    Mr. Raymond Young Lap Moon, JP, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs of the Home Affairs Bureau and Mr. Victor Hui Chun Fui, GBS, JP, Vice-President of Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China had kindly consented to officiate the Opening Ceremony with H.E. Sheikh Talal Mohammad Al-Sabah, President of ABF and Mr. Kevin Dornberger, President of FIQ/WTBA on Monday, September 3, 2012 at 7:00 pm at Hong Kong Bowling City.

    This biennial event has attracted 215 bowlers and 84 officials from 24 Asian countries and territories including Australia, Bahrain, China, DPR Korea, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Macau, China, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and the host country Hong Kong, China.

    A total of 128 men bowlers and 87 women bowlers will compete for the medals of the six events - Singles, Doubles, Trios, Team of Five, All Events and Masters - in the men's and women's division, respectively.

    The six-men and six-women Hong Kong, China Team will be led by the defending Men's All Events champion, Wu Siu Hong and present Asian Ranking number 10 women bowler, Chan Shuk Han.

    Hong Kong, China Men Team members comprises of Eric Tseng Tak Hin, Michael Mak Cheuk Yin, Wicky Yeung Wai Ki, Michael Tsang Pak Kei and Joshua Chow Hoi Leung.

    Women Team members comprises of Milki Ng Tsz Yin, Zoe Tam Shun Yee, Sonia Ho Sze Yui, Victoria Chan Chee Yan and Christine Cheung Ka Wai.

    Among those high caliber bowlers are the reigning Asian Ranking number 1 in the men's and women's division, respectively, Hussain Al Suwaidi, UAE, and Jazreel Tan from Singapore.

    Also in Team Singapore, is Daphne Tan, first runner-up of the 2011 Women's World Championships Masters event, which was hosted at the same venue in Hong Kong. Another familiar face is multiple women's world champion Esther Cheah from Malaysia.

    It was only in June that Cheah clinched the Women's Masters Champion of the 38th Hong Kong International Open.

    Local favorite Wu Siu Hong, champion of the 2011 World Bowling Tour's AMF Australian Masters, winner of the 2011 ABF Tour - Tournament of Champions and the 2012 ABF Tour Thailand leg, will try his best to match his skill against the forever strong Korean team and other top class bowlers to secure a position on the victory podium.

    His teammates, Eric Tseng, recently crowned first runner-up of 2011 ABF Tour - Tournament of Champions, Wicky Yeung, the first runner-up of 2012 ABF Tour Thailand leg, Michael Mak, Michael Tsang and Joshua Chow of course will also be eyeing the medals of the six events being played.

    The women team will take this tournament as a trial to match their skill against their Asian compatriots aiming at the top 16 position in All Events and a berth into the Masters event.

    With so many top caliber bowlers from all over Asia, people could expect very thrilling and powerful competition in the eight-day championship in Hong Kong showcasing the prowess of the Asian athletes.
