Pete Weber top seed for finals at 2016 USBC Senior Masters

2016PBA5009PeteWeber_small.jpg Pete Weber of St. Ann, Missouri, is on the verge of history at the 2016 USBC Senior Masters, where he earned the top seed for the stepladder finals for the second consecutive year. The 53-year-old right-hander downed Dave Arnold of Elk Grove, California, 674-589, in the final winners-bracket match Saturday at Sam's Town Bowling Center to remain undefeated. The USBC and Professional Bowlers Association Hall of Famer now is one win away from a record fifth PBA50 Tour win of the season.

Bowler fights emotions, advances at Go Bowling PWBA Players Championship

But a much different accomplishment happened a few spots down the leaderboard. Gabby Mayfield (pictured) of Lake Isabella, California, fought through an emotional day to earn the 16th and final spot for Saturday's match-play rounds at The Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

A total of 32 players remain in contention at Sam's Town Bowling Center in Las Vegas from the 64 that began Friday's competition in the double-elimination match-play bracket.

Belmonte, Ciminelli, Svensson and Simonsen nominated for ESPY Best Bowler Award

Voting is open until the start of the ESPYs telecast

2016PBA03JasonBelmonte2_small.jpgThree-time defending PBA Player of the Year Jason Belmonte (l.), Player of the Year contender Ryan Ciminelli, 2016 FireLake PBA Tournament of Champions winner and 2015 Rookie of the Year Jesper Svensson and 2016 USBC Masters champion Anthony Simonsen have been selected as nominees for the 2016 ESPY Best Bowler Award. Awards will be announced Wednesday, July 13 during the ESPYs telecast in Los Angeles beginning at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Voting will be open until the start of the ESPYs telecast.

Parker Bohn top qualifier at 2016 USBC Senior Masters

2015PBA17ParkerBohn_small.jpgParker Bohn III of Jackson, New Jersey, left little doubt he'd be the top seed heading into match play at the 2016 United States Bowling Congress Senior Masters when he started the final day of qualifying at Sam's Town Bowling Center in Las Vegas with games of 264 and 288. The 52-year-old left-hander averaged 257.2 on the way to a 1,286 five-game block Wednesday and completed the wire-to-wire domination of the 263-player field with a record three-day total of 3,712.

Parker Bohn widens lead after second day at 2016 USBC Senior Masters

2016PBA5009ParkerBohn4_small.jpgIt only took Parker Bohn III of Jackson, New Jersey, seven games to reach an over-par score no other competitor at the 2016 United States Bowling Congress Senior Masters could match in 10 games, and he was able to build on his opening-round lead at Sam's Town Bowling Center in Las Vegas. The USBC and Professional Bowlers Association Hall of Famer entered Wednesday's second round with a 10-pin advantage and now leads the field of more than 260 players by nearly 100 pins with a 10-game total of 2,426, a 242.6 average.

Go Bowling PWBA Players Championship returns this week

2016PWBALogo_small.jpgThe Professional Women's Bowling Association Tour added additional events for the 2016 season, including the return of a major championship – the Go Bowling PWBA Players Championship. The tournament is the second major on the 2016 PWBA Tour and will take place June 23-26 at The Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley in Green Bay, Wis. CBS Sports Network will have live coverage of the stepladder finals of the Players Championship on Sunday at noon Eastern.

The PBA Xtra Frame Lubbock Sports Open may have received a boost from International Bowl Expo, the annual multi-event bowling industry trade show and educational showcase that is set to get underway in Las Vegas this weekend. A number of PBA stars, including international stars Dom Barrett and Jason Belmonte, will compete in the tournament this weekend before heading to Las Vegas to make appearances at the Bowl Expo trade show for the bowling ball companies next week.

Parker Bohn leads after first round at 2016 USBC Senior Masters

The USBC and PBA Hall of Famer set the pace through the first of the event's three qualifying rounds at Sam's Town Bowling Center in Las Vegaswith 1,258 five-game total Tuesday, while his roommate for the week, John Donovan of Melbourne, Florida, came within one strike of taking the lead later in the day.

Cherie Tan wins first PWBA title at 2016 Storm Sacramento Open

2016PWBATour03CherieTan2_small.jpgCherie Tan capped an impressive four-week stretch for her and her teammates from Singapore as she delivered in the final frame to capture the 2016 PWBA Storm Sacramento Open. Tan, who earned the top seed for the stepladder finals by posting a 6-0 record in match play, connected on two strikes in the 10th frame of the title match to outlast Shannon Pluhowsky of Dayton, Ohio, 208-205, to win her first PWBA title. The stepladder aired nationally on CBS Sports Network on Tuesday.

Japan's Junichi Yajima wins 2016 ITRC Super Senior Classic

2016PBA5008JunichiYajima_small.jpg Junichi Yajima of Japan earned new life in a dramatic semifinal match at the 2016 ITRC Super Senior Classic and rode that momentum to a 248-218 win over top seed Ron Mohr of North Las Vegas, Nevada, to become the first international player to win the event. Yajima and Mohr matched each other nearly shot for shot through the first eight frames of the championship match Sunday at Sam's Town Bowling Center, but a pair of 10 pins from Mohr in the final frames gave Yajima the opportunity to take the title.

Ron Mohr top qualifier at 2016 ITRC Super Senior Classic

2016PBA5008RonMohr4_small.jpgAfter faltering briefly during the second round of qualifying at the 2016 International Training and Research Center Super Senior Classic, Ron Mohr of North Las Vegas, Nevada, was able to snap back into form and again see his name at the top of the standings at Sam's Town Bowling Center in Las Vegas. The 60-year-old right-hander and opening-round leader regained his momentum during his final four games Saturday, averaging more than 249 down the stretch to remain in the lead with a 3,700 total through 16 games of qualifying.

Rocio Restrepo snags top seed for PWBA Greater Detroit Open finals

Heading into the PWBA Greater Detroit Open on Saturday, second-round leader Rocio Restrepo of Colombia really wanted to nail down the top spot for the television show. For the second consecutive day, Restrepo cranked it up for the final few games to lead her match-play group and claim the No. 1 seed for the PWBA Greater Detroit Open TV show. The stepladder finals will be taped June 26 during the Go Bowling PWBA Players Championship and will air Tuesday, July 19, on CBS Sports Network.

Rocio Restrepo has big finish to take PWBA Greater Detroit Open lead

2016PWBA07RocioRestrepo_small.jpgColombia native Rocio Restrepo (l.) was on her way to the second 800 series of the PWBA Tour season at the PWBA Greater Detroit Open on Friday when she decided to try something different. While the change didn't work, Restrepo still pulled out a 238 in her final game of the day to grab the lead with a 2,786 total for the 12 qualifying games. She leads Brittany Smith of Des Moines, Iowa, by five pins with 2015 PWBA Rookie of the Year Stefanie Johnson of Grand Prairie, Texas, in third at 2,758.

Ron Mohr leads first round at 2016 ITRC Super Senior Classic

2016PBA5008RonMohr_small.jpgRon Mohr of North Las Vegas, Nevada, has been on a roll and turned that momentum into an opening-round lead Friday at the 2016 International Training and Research Center Super Senior Classic. The two-time Professional Bowlers Association 50 Tour Player of the Year averaged more than 232 for his eight-game block to finish at the top of the standings at Sam's Town Bowling Center with a 1,860 total. The 60-year-old right-hander has led qualifying at the last two PBA50 Tour stops.

In each of the seven domestic PBA regions, players are accumulating points between Jan. 1 and the Sept. 30 cutoff date to not only earn berths in the eight-player PBA Challenge events, but also win paid entries into WSOB VIII worth $1,000.

Two top-tier Senior events headed to Las Vegas in June

The International Training and Research Center Super Senior Classic, which will feature 125 of the top super seniors age 60 and older, will kick things off at Sam's Town and run from June 17-19, while the United States Bowling Congress Senior Masters, welcoming more than 250 of the top senior players age 50 and older, will take place June 21-26.

Shannon O'Keefe captures Nationwide PWBA Sonoma County Open title

2016PWBATour02ShannonOKeefe_small.jpgShannon O'Keefe of O'Fallon, Illinois, struck on six of her first seven shots on the way to a 246-203 victory over top seed Kelly Kulick of Union, New Jersey, in the title match of the Nationwide PWBA Sonoma County Open. It was the first individual PWBA title for O'Keefe. She teamed with Bill O'Neill to win the PBA/PWBA Striking Against Breast Cancer Mixed Doubles last year. Second-seeded O'Keefe defeated New Hui Fen of Singapore in the semi-final match, 235-226, to advance.

Noel Vazquez wins PBA50 Northern California Classic for first PBA50 Tour title

In his first PBA50 finals appearance, Vazquez defeats Pete Weber in the title match, 255-224, to end Weber's consecutive win streak at four

2016PBA5007NoelVazquez2_small.jpgNoel Vazquez of Sacramento, Calif., won the PBA50 Northern California Classic Wednesday for his first career PBA50 Tour title and in the process ended Pete Weber's record run of consecutive PBA50 Tour titles at four. Vazquez, who has won two PBA regional and six PBA50 regional titles, defeated Weber, 255-224, in the title match at Harvest Park Bowl. Vazquez took an 11-pin lead in the fifth frame and then threw five consecutive strikes which were too much for Weber, who was the finals top qualifier, to overcome.

Liz Johnson looks to extend early success at PWBA Greater Detroit Open

2016USBCWCLizJohnson2_small.jpgIn grabbing player of the year honors in the return of the PWBA Tour last season, Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga, New York, won three titles, including two majors. This week, she returns to defend her PWBA Detroit Open title when the tour stops at Super Bowl in Canton, Michigan. She said the momentum of last year's success helps, but 2016 is a new year and the PWBA Tour is continuing to provide more challenges. A practice session is set for Thursday, with qualifying rounds taking place Friday and Saturday.
