Monacelli, Weber lead PBA50 Johnny Petraglia BVL Open Qualifying

2015PBAAmletoMonacelli_small.jpg 2014PBA50PeteWeber_small.jpg PBA Hall of Famers Amleto Monacelli and Pete Weber took the top two spots after qualifying Monday in the PBA50 Johnny Petraglia BVL Open presented by Brunswick at Farmingdale Lanes in Farmingdale, N.Y., as competition moves into match play. The 54-year-old Monacelli earned top-qualifier honors with a 3,683 16-game pinfall total (230.1 average). The 53-year-old Weber finished qualifying in second with a 3,605 pinfall (225 average).

"Right" choice helps Dallas Strikers win PBA League Elias Cup

2016PBALDallasStrikers_small.jpgMaking the "right" lane choice throughout the Professional Bowlers Association League Elias Cup elimination rounds proved to be the correct strategic move as the GoBowling.com Dallas Strikers ended four years of frustration in capturing the elusive team championship with a 4-2 win against the GEICO New York City KingPins. The 2016 Elias Cup was held at Bayside Bowl in Portland, Maine, from March 31 through April 3, 2016. The finals aired Sunday, May 8 on ESPN.

Kelly Kulick earns top seed for Sonoma County Open finals

2016PWBATour02Finalists_small.jpgStatistically, Kelly Kulick (r.) of Union, New Jersey, had a terrific 2015 season on the Professional Women's Bowling Association Tour, but there was one thing missing - a win. Now, she's in position to get that hurdle out of the way early in 2016 as the top seed for the stepladder finals of the Nationwide PWBA Sonoma County Open, which will be taped May 26 at The Orleans Bowling Center in Las Vegas and air Tuesday, June 14 on CBS Sports Network.

Danielle McEwan leads after Day 1 at PWBA Sonoma County Open

2015PWBATourDanielleMcEwan_small.jpg Most players on the PWBA Tour travel with diverse equipment arsenals and a wealth of knowledge and support, but Danielle McEwan (pictured) of Stony Point, New York, found patience to be her most effective tool on the way to the top of the standings Friday at the 2016 Nationwide PWBA Sonoma County Open. McEwan said she didn't initially see what she needed to see in order to successfully navigate the 37-foot oil pattern at Double Decker Lanes in Rohnert Park, Calif., but when it finally clicked, she was able to take advantage.

2016 Smithfield PWBA Tour Championship set for Sept. 1-4 in Virginia

2015PWBA11DanielleMcEwan_small.jpgThe 2016 Smithfield PWBA Tour Championship, the final event of the Professional Women's Bowling Association Tour season, will be held Sept. 1-4 at Uptown Alley in Midlothian, Virginia. CBS Sports Network will televise the event's semifinals and championship matches. The Smithfield PWBA Tour Championship brings together the top 16 competitors from the 2016 PWBA Tour season. All 2016 PWBA Tour champions will receive an automatic invitation.

Leading off the Xtra Frame coverage of the Petraglia BVL Open will be a pair of special "clash" events.

Leading the list of PBA greats will be the tournament namesake, bowling legend and Brooklyn native Johnny Petraglia (pictured) of nearby Jackson, N.J., the only player to win PBA national titles in six different decades.

Sixth career PBA50 win ties late father, spoils Jack Jurek's bid to defend Mooresville title

2016PBA5003PeteWeber.jpg PBA Hall of Famer Pete Weber won the PBA50 Tour's Mooresville Ford Open presented by Columbia 300 and Miller High Life Wednesday night at George Pappas' Victory Lanes, notching back-to-back titles and his sixth career PBA50 title to tie his late father, Dick Weber, on the all-time "senior tour" titles list. In winning the title, Weber spoiled Jack Jurek's bid to defend his 2015 Mooresville title after the Lackawanna, N.Y., veteran earned the top berth for the stepladder finals.

Pete Weber dominates qualifying in PBA50 Mooresville Ford Open

2015PBAPeteWeber_small.jpg In another dominating qualifying performance, Pete Weber of St. Ann., Mo., continued to pace the field in the PBA50 Mooresville Ford Open presented by Columbia 300 and Miller High Life Tuesday, averaging 250.6 to take top qualifier honors at George Pappas' Victory Lanes. The PBA Hall of Famer and 2015 PBA50 Player of the Year compiled a 4,010 16-game pinfall total bowling 2,012 in Tuesday's eight-game round after a 1,998 in Monday's first round. Weber's games in the second round were 246, 212, 268, 227, 279, 290, 279 and 211.

2015PBAPeteWeber_small.jpg Trying for his second consecutive win of the young 2016 PBA50 Tour season, defending PBA50 Player of the Year Pete Weber of St. Ann, Mo., averaged 249.7 Monday to take the first round lead in the PBA50 Mooresville Ford Open presented by Columbia 300 and Miller High Life at George Pappas' Victory Lanes. Starting the round with games of 258 and 300, the PBA Hall of Famer, who won last week's Sun Bowl In The Villages, followed up with games of 256, 279, 247, 196, 247 and 215 for a 1,998 pinfall total.

Host state well-represented at 2016 Nationwide PWBA Sonoma County Open

The event is the second of the 2016 PWBA Tour season and will run May 5-7 at Double Decker Lanes in Rohnert Park, California, with nearly 80 players representing nine countries, battling for a $10,000 top prize.

Rocio Restrepo leads opening round of PWBA Las Vegas Open

2016PWBATour01RocioRestrepo_small.jpgFresh off a Masters gold medal at the PABCON Champion of Champions event, Rocio Restrepo of Louisville, Ohio, put together another strong performance Saturday as she led qualifying at the Professional Women's Bowling Association Las Vegas Open. Restrepo, a member of Team Colombia, averaged more than 226 to lead the opening event of 2016 PWBA season with a 2,718 total for 12 games at Texas Station. The top 32 players in qualifying advanced to Sunday's cashers' round.

Weber (center) won his fifth career PBA50 Tour title by defeating two-time PBA50 Player of the Year and tournament top qualifier Ron Mohr of Las Vegas, 204-162, in the title match.

PWBA to kick off 2016 season in Las Vegas on April 29

The PWBA Las Vegas Open, starting April 29 at Texas Station, will be the first event of the 2016 PWBA Tour schedule, which will feature four major events, including the return of the PWBA Players Championship, among the tour's 14 stops.

Two-time PBA50 Player of the Year averages 251 to lead 32 players into match play

After a 2,056 eight-game pinfall in Sunday's first round, Mohr followed it up with 1,961 after Monday's second round for a 4,017 16-game overall pinfall. Mohr holds the PBA50 eight and 16-game qualifying records of 2,160 and 4,243, respectively.

Tackett (l.) the 2013 PBA Rookie of the Year, defeated top qualifier Ryan Ciminelli of Cheektowaga, N.Y., 217-210, to win the $10,000 first prize after eliminating PBA Regional veteran Steven Taylor in the semifinal match.

Mohr (pictured), who owns the eight-game block qualifying mark of 2,160 (270 average) set during the 2010 PBA Senior Columbus Open fired a 2,056 pinfall total Sunday with games of 237, 248, 275, 248, 298, 235, 236 and 279.

Scott Weber, Ryan Ciminelli lead qualifying at PBA Xtra Frame Storm Open

The 51-year-old Weber, who is no relation to the famous Weber bowling family, bowled a 2,025 eight-game pinfall total. He holds a 41-pin lead over six-time PBA Tour winner Ryan Ciminelli (pictured) of Cheetowaga, N.Y., who finished qualifying with a 1,984 pinfall (248 average).
