Chuck Pezzano named recipient of IBMA Hennessy Award of Merit


The International Bowling Media Association announced Chuck Pezzano (pictured), recognized as the dean of bowling writers, will receive the 2015 Hennessy Award of Merit. To say Chuck Pezzano was bowling's most famous and prolific journalist is the understatement of the century. No one ever has or ever will surpass the sheer volume of positive publicity he generated for the sport in an incredible career spanning more than 60 years. The Hennessy Award will be presented June 24, 2015 at International Bowl Expo.

Shannon Pluhowsky, Liz Johnson qualify to represent Team USA in Pan American Games

2013WCLizJohnsonShannonPluhowsky_small.jpgShannon Pluhowsk of Dayton, Ohio, and Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga, New York (r-l), will represent Team USA at the prestigious 2015 Pan American Games this July in Toronto. The qualifying process was based on performance at the 2015 United States Bowling Congress Team USA Trials and the 2015 USBC Queens. The Pan American Games are an Americas version of the Olympic Games which includes the Olympic program sports and others that are not part of the Olympics.



Kyle Troup triumphs as April Bowler of the Month

2015LogoInfusionInsideBowlingOpenKyleTroup_small.jpgKyle Troup (pictured), Taylorsville, North Carolina, has been chosen as the April 2015 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association. Troup defeated top seeded Bill O'Neill, Langhorne, Pennsylvania, 210-182, in the finals of the Logo Infusion Open in St. Louis, Missouri. Troup, with numerous titles in the PBA South Region in his young career, has been a regular on the PBA Tour the past few years and is slated for action in the upcoming PBA Summer Swing in Oklahoma.



Canadian Tenpin Federation inducts Bob Puttick to Hall of Fame

2015CTFHOFDave KistKarenandBobPuttick_small.jpgCalgary's Bob Puttick (pictured with CTF Director Dave Kist, left, and his wife Karen) has been named to the Canadian Tenpin Federation Hall of Fame in the athletes category. He will the 29th inductee joining 18 athletes, one veteran and nine builders in the national tenpin hall. Puttick, who has won his first tournament in 1971, still competes and cashes in both senior and open events in Alberta and Montana on a regular basis. He is one of only two bowlers in the Calgary Sports Hall of Fame.



Canadian Tenpin Federation announces adult, senior and youth Bowler of the Year 2014

Lynne Gauthier (l.) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Dan MacLelland (r.) from Kitchener, Ontario, were named adult Bowler of Year. Senior selections went out to Cathy Harvey of Orillia, Ontario, and Michel Lesage from Trois-Rivières, Quebec, and Danielle Lemoine and Curtis Fach of Guelph, Ontario, were honored in the youth division.

IBMA to honor Gordon Vadakin with Alberta E. Crowe Meritorious Service Award

200910WSUGordonVadakin_small.jpgA man who has achieved success both on and off the lanes but who perhaps is best recognized as one of bowling's top coaches, is the recipient of this year's International Bowling Media Association Alberta E. Crowe Meritorious Service Award. Gordon Vadakin (pictured), who has made his mark in bowling as an athlete, instructor, coach, and even an entertainer of sorts, is being honored for his outstanding long-term accomplishments in and for the sport of bowling. The award will be presented during International Bowl Expo in Las Vegas.

Michael Tang, Daria Kovalova named Collegiate MVPs for 2014-15 Season

201415CollegiateMVPsMichaelTangDariaKovalova_small.jpgSan Jose State sophomore Michael Tang and Wichita State junior Daria Kovalova (pictured, l-r) were named Most Valuable Players for the 2014-15 college bowling season by the National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association. Tang and Kovalova were honored Wednesday night with the rest of the All-Americans at the Night of Champions banquet held in conjunction with the 2015 XBowling Intercollegiate Team Championships, which starts Thursday at Northrock Lanes in Wichita, Kan.



Josh Blanchard snares March Bowler of the Month

2015EBT06JoshBlanchard_small.jpgJosh Blanchard of Gilbert, Arizona has been chosen as the March 2015 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association. A unanimous choice by committee members, Blanchard won his first two PBA titles in a nine-day span. His first title came in a 248-211 win over Sin Li Jane, Malaysia, for the WBT/EBT 12th Brunswick Euro Challenge. The second win was a 2-1 best-of-three win over reigning PBA Player of the Year Jason Belmonte, Australia, in the PBA XtraFrame Maine Shootout.

Canadian bowling team nominated for XVII Pan American Games "Toronto 2015"

2015PanAmGamesLogo_small.jpgThe Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and the Canadian Tenpin Federation (CTF) have announced the athletes nominated to represent Team Canada at the XVII Pan American Games "Toronto 2015" from July 10-26. The ladies roster will consist of Isabelle Rioux of Trois-Rivières, Quebec, and Robin Orlikowski who resides in Michigan. The Canadian men's roster features World Champions Dan MacLelland from Kitchener, Ontario, and François Lavoie of Quebec City.



IBMA announces sixteen finalists for 2015 College Bowlers of the Year

IBMALogo.jpg The International Bowling Media Association (formerly Bowling Writers Association of America) has announced the sixteen nominees for the 2015 College Bowler of the Year. The committee, comprised of IBMA members who are bowling media and former college coaches, met on April 6, 2015 to determine the top eight male and female players eligible to receive the award. The 2015 winners will be announcedon April 15th.



Jason Belmonte historic as February Bowler of the Month

Belmonte had a month to remember with an unprecedented three-peat win at the 65th USBC Masters (l.), followed up by a back-to-back win at the 50th PBA Tournament of Champions (r.).

Devin Bidwell, Tommy Jones qualify to compete in XVII Pan American Games "Toronto 2015"


Devin Bidwell (l.) of Wichita, Kansas, and Tommy Jones (r.) of Simpsonville, South Carolina, will represent Team USA at the prestigious 2015 Pan American Games this July 10-26 in Toronto, Canada. The qualifying process was based on performance at the 2015 USBC Team USA Trials and the 2015 USBC Masters. The Team USA women's representatives will be decided after the 2015 USBC Queens in May.

Jason Belmonte and Kelly Kulick named 2014 IBMA Bowlers of the Year

Belmonte (l.) was the overwhelming choice of IBMA members, garnering 81% of first place votes on ballots distributed in January. This selection also marks back-to-back IBMA Bowler of the Year titles, as he was also chosen in 2013. In the women's category, it was another 'slim pickins' year for events.



Mike Fagan starts 2015 as January Bowler of the Month


Mike Fagan, Fort Worth, Texas, has been chosen as the January 2015 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association. Fagan defeated Wes Malott, Pflugerville, Texas, 252-212, for the PBA World Championship, earning his second major PBA title, and fifth overall. Fagan, the No. 2 seed, defeated Williams, 219-206, in the semifinal, setting up the title match with top-seeded Malott. Others obtaining votes this month were Paul Moor, Chris Barnes, Brian Voss and Kameron Doyle.

Tish Johnson, Pete Weber elected IBMA Senior Bowlers of the Year for 2014

Johnson led the female voting with 148 points with Paula Vidad of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., a distant second (59). Weber topped the male ballot with 110 points, followed by Walter Ray Williams Jr. of Oxford, Fla. (76).



Kent marshalled in as December Bowler of the Month

2014IBMABotMMarshallKent_small.jpg Marshall Kent (pictured), Yakima, Washington, has been chosen as the December 2014 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association. Kent defeated Martin Larsen, Sweden, 257-206, to win the 8th Kingdom International Open, also his first PBA title. Others obtaining votes were three-time World Champion Choi Bokeum, two-time World Champions Kang Heewon and Park Jongwoo, all from Korea, and four-time silver medalist Mike Fagan.

PBA Hall of Fame Charter member Chuck Pezzano dies at age 86

Internationally recognized bowling journalist, historian was one of a kind

20150123ChuckPezzano_small.jpgChuck Pezzano (pictured) of Clifton, N.J., a charter member of the PBA Hall of Fame and widely recognized as the dean of bowling journalists, died Friday, January 23 of cardiac arrest while undergoing a stent procedure at St. Mary's Passaic, N.J. He turned 86 on Jan. 14. Since the formation of the PBA in 1958, no one has contributed more to the organization in so many different ways than Pezzano, a founding member of the organization. He was the first Meritorious Service inductee in the inaugural PBA Hall of Fame class in 1975, among his 12 halls of fames.

Adam Barta targets to set a new Guinness Book of World Record for 1 hour pinfall

2015HammerBowlingStaffAdamBarta_small.jpg Hammer Bowling and have announced that Hammer Bowling's own Adam Barta (pictured) will be attempting to break the Guinness Book of World Records "Highest Pinfall in Tenpin Bowling in 1 Hour by an Individual". The current record is 2,132 pins. Barta will attempt this World Record at the TNBA Reed-Hawthorne Memorial Tournament from The Game at Wickliffe in Wickliffe, Ohio, February 13-15, 2015. The World Record attempt will be streamed LIVE by in its entirety.

Richardson, who calls himself a certified music freak, realized what a great idea it was for a piece for his pop music history blog, Zero to 180. He started poking around on the web thinking someone surely has already pulled together a righteous list of songs about bowling, but amazingly … no one had! Until now.

Góngora, Perez conclude Central American & Caribbean Games with victory in Masters

El Salvador and Guatemala earn final two spots for the 2015 Pan American Games

In the women's gold medal match, Góngora defeated Kamilah Dammers, Aruba, 235-211, to claim her second gold medal. Perez defeated Mario Quintero, Mexico, 245-207, to become the only three-time gold medalist.
