International Bowling Media Association announces 2012-13 awards

Honors to Dave Luby, Mark Gerberich and Kegel/John Davis; Asbaty, Fagan capture inaugural IBMA Bowler of the Year honors

IBMALogo_small.jpgThe International Bowling Media Association (IBMA) has announced its list of award winners for 2012-13. Three bowling visionaries are to be recognized for their contributions to the sport and industry of bowling. The Alberta Crowe Meritorious Service Award was awarded to Kegel/John Davis. Former PBA commissioner Mark Gerberich received the Hennessy Award of Merit and Bowlers Journal founder Dave Luby was named Mort Luby Hall of Fame Award winner.

Pete Weber marches on as March IBMA Bowler of the Month

Pete Weber (pictured left) of St. Ann, Missouri, has been chosen as the March 2013 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association. Weber defeated Australian two-hander Jason Belmonte for the 2013 Barbasol PBA Tournament of Champions, 224-179. This title marks Weber's tenth PBA major championship, tying Earl Anthony atop the all-time list. At age 50, Weber became the first player in PBA history to complete the Triple Crown for a second time.

IBMA announces eight nominees for men's and women's Collegiate Bowlers of the Year

Five international bowlers among the eight female nominees

IBMALogo_small.jpgThe International Bowling Media Association (formerly Bowling Writers Association of America) has announced the sixteen nominees for the 2013 Collegiate Bowler of the Year. The committee, comprised of IBMA members who are bowling media and former college coaches, met on March 26, 2013 to determine the top eight male and female players eligible to receive the award. The 2012 Collegiate Bowlers of the Year were Jazreel Tan, Wichita State and Marshall Kent, Robert Morris-Illinois. Both players are in the running again this year.

Puerto Rico Bowling Federation releases Bulletin No.1 for 2013 PABCON Youth Championships

Under-16 and Under-20 to held at 24-lane Bowling Center Caribe in Ponce, Puerto Rico from July 6-13, 2013

PABCONLogo.jpgThe Pan American Bowling Confederation (PABCON) and the Puerto Rico Bowling Federation (FEBOPUR) have released Bulletin No. 1 for the 2013 PABCON Youth Championships. The championships will be held at 24-lane Bowling Center Caribe in Ponce, Puerto Rico from July 6-13, 2013. Each PABCON member federation is allowed to send up to four boys and four girls in the Under-20 division and up to two boys and two girls in the Under-16 division.

Newcomer Larry Salvati to represent Canada in the men's division at 49th BWC edition in Siberia

Lagrange, who won the women's title in 2009, and Salvati, who had his first appearance at the BWC qualifier, will represent Canada this coming November 15-24 at the 49th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup at Sibiryak Bowling Center in Krasnoyarsk (Siberia), Russia.

Tish Johnson beats Robin Romeo to win 23rd National Golden Ladies Classic

Two USBC Hall of Famers battled it out for the title in the 23rd National Golden Ladies Classic March 21st at The Orleans Bowling Center in Las Vegas, Nev., United States. Tish Johnson (center) of Colorado Springs, Co., added to her impressive title list with her first career "Senior" championship by defeating Robin Romeo of Newhall, Calif., 213-204. Johnson, who has won 25 professional women's titles in her career, pocketed $2,130 for the victory.

Quintanilla, Madriz end X Central American Games 2013 with victory in Masters match play

Quinanilla defeated All Events champion Sofia Granda, Guatemala, for the women's title, 2-1, while Madriz topped compatriot James Stanley in the men's finals also in three games.

Guatemala's women, Costa Rican men dominate Team event at X Central American Games 2013

The women from Guatemala and the men from the host country Costa Rica (pictured) earned the gold medals in five-player Team event and in Team All Events in the X Central American Games 2013 Saturday at Bol Cariari in San José, Costa Rica. Alejandro Reyna of Costa Rica and Sofia Granda of Guatemala captured the gold medal in Men's and Women's All Events. The top eight men and the top 8 women in All Events advanced to Sunday's Masters match play.

It was the fourth gold medal for the host country and the second for Guatemala. Alejandro Reyna, Mario Valverde and Alberto Lizano (l-r) posted a 3885 series, an average of 215.83, including a high game of 727 on the WTBA Montreal pattern to beat out their compatriots for the gold medal by 53 pins.

Sofia Granda, Armando Batres win first gold medal for Guatemala at Central American Games

Guatemala's Luis A. Herrera, Pamela Monzon lead in All Events after 18 of 30 games

2013CAGMixedDoublesTop3_small.jpgSofia Granda and Armando Batres teamed to win the first gold medal for Guatemala on the third day of competition at the X Central American Games 2013 Thursday at Bol Cariari in San José, Costa Rica. The duo, which led the event from the beginning, put together games of 453, 403, 501, 458, 446 and 392 on the WTBA Stockholm pattern for 2653 total and an average of 221.08 to cruise to the title in the Mixed Doubles event. Competition resumes Friday with the Trios event.

Costa Rica sweeps Doubles gold at X Central American Games 2013 in San José

Alberto Lizano/Rodolfo Madriz and Viviana Delgado/Marie Ramirez win the titles in Men's and Women's Doubles; Costa Rican men achieve a clean sweep in 10th frame drama

The team from the host country Costa Rica won the gold medals in Men's and Women's Doubles at the X Central American Games 2013 when Alberto Lizano/Rodolfo Madriz and Viviana Delgado/Marie Ramirez captured the titles Wednesday at Bol Cariari in San José, Costa Rica. The medals in Men's Doubles were decided in a 10th frame drama featuring three teams from Costa Rica and one team from Guatemala. When the dust had settled Costa Rica had swept all three medals.

2013CAGEdithQuintanillaAlejandroReyna_small.jpgAlejandro Reyna (r.) of Costa Rica and El Salvador's Edith Quintanilla (l.) started the bowling competition at the 10th Central American Games 2013 in San José, Costa Rica, with victory in men's and women's Singles. Reyna gave the host country its first gold medal when he rolled a 1354 series on the WTBA Stockholm pattern to capture the Men's Singles title with an average of 225.67. Quintanilla had six games between 200 and 255 to claim the women's gold with 1321 (220.17).

Tenpin Bowling is back on the Central American Games schedule

After two consecutive editions without taking part, Tenpin Bowling celebrates its return at the quadrennial Games. The bowling competition will be held from March 12-17 at Bol Cariari. 51 bowlers - 27 men and 24 women - from five countries (Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama and the host country, Costa Rica) will compete for the medals in Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Trios, Teams, individual All Events, Country All Events, and Masters.

Junior World Team Challenge goes international; gets WTBA and PABCON Certification

2013JuniorWorldTeamChallengeLogo_small.jpg The Junior World Team Challenge tournament has announced the recent certification by both World Tenpin Bowling Association (WTBA) and Pan American Bowling Confederation (PABCON). The 18th annual event will be held June 20-23, 2013 at Suncoast Hotel & Bowling Center in Las Vegas, Nev. The Junior World Team Challenge, always a "must bowl" for many top youth and collegiate bowlers in the United States, is now one of only a few international events for youth bowlers.

Jason Belmonte masters February IBMA Bowler of the Month

201213PBA11JasonBelmonte2_small.jpgJason Belmonte (pictured) of Orange, New South Wales, Australia, has been unanimously named February 2013 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association. Belmonte captured the USBC Masters, his first major PBA title, by defeating Wes Malott, Pflugerville, Texas, 258-245. The two-hander, who ended the game with six consecutive strikes, became only the second foreign-born player to win the USBC Masters behind Koivuniemi in 2000.

IBMA elects Williams Jr., Romeo as Senior Bowlers of the Year for 2012

Williams Jr. won two titles on the 2012 PBA Senior Tour en route to capture his first PBA Senior Player of the Year crown. Romeo was crowned champion in the inaugural Senior Women's U.S. Open and also won the Triple Crown Shootout.

Representing the sport of tenpin bowling at the assembly is PABCON President José Guandique of El Salvador. Guandique was pleased to inform the PABCON member federations that PASO President Mario Vázquez Raña has announced Thursday afternoon that Bowling will be included again in the official program of the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto, Canada.

Earn automatic spots on Team Venezuela and will represent the country at the 2013 World Championships

The player with the highest 48-game total was declared the winner. The top five men plus PBA superstar Amleto Monacelli and top six women earned spots on Team Venezuela in 2013.

Tommy Jones starts 2013 as January IBMA Bowler of the Month

Tommy Jones, Simpsonville, South Carolina, has been named the January 2013 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association. Jones defended his men's title at the International Bowling Championships 2013 supported by DHC in Inazawa, Japan, by beating Sean Rash, Montgomery, Illinois, 209-204. The title counted for a World Bowling Tour major title as well as a PBA International title, giving Jones his 14th career PBA crown and the 6,000,000 Yen first place prize.
