Defending champion Kulick ready for U.S. Women's Open challenge


With the possibility of winning $1 million and competing at Cowboys Stadium in front of perhaps the largest crowd in bowling history, there has never been more on the line for Bowling's U.S. Women's Open defending champion Kelly Kulick (pictured). The road to making bowling history will be a long and challenging one for Kulick. For one, she will face the largest field in the history of the U.S. Women's Open as nearly 300 athletes are expected to compete.

2011USWOMidfield1_small.jpgNearly 300 of the world's best women bowlers will be seeking to compete in one of the world's largest venues when the 2011 U.S. Women's Open comes to North Texas. While the pro-am and early rounds will be held June 24-29 at AMF Euless Lanes, the televised finals will take place June 30 on specially-constructed lanes at the 50-yard line of Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. The stepladder matches will be taped for showing July 2 at 6 p.m. EDT on ESPN2.

BPAA wins two prestigious Mercury Awards for public relations efforts

New look is a fun, interactive way to introduce children to bowling

The website, which went live Saturday, Feb. 24, was re-tooled by BPAA Web services to be the destination of choice for introducing bowling to children 8 years-old and younger. Pat Ciniello ((pictured) has been selected as the 2011 BPAA Hall of Fame Inductee and recipient of the Victor Lerner Memorial Medal. The Lerner Medal is the highest honor in the bowling business and is awarded for a lifetime of service to the bowling industry and represents the recipient's induction into BPAA's Hall of Fame.

Salute to Bowling raises more than $130,000 for International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame

2010BPAALogo_small.jpgOne of bowling's biggest annual fund-raising events was once again a huge success, thanks to the generosity of the people attending and bidding at the 2010 Salute to Bowling. The Salute, held June 30 at the Las Vegas Hilton during International Bowl Expo, raised more than $130,000 to help fund the operations of the new International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame (IBM/HF) at the International Bowling Campus in Arlington, Texas. It was the most money raised since moving the event to Bowl Expo in 2002.

Leaders from Brunswick Bowling, Ebonite International, Storm Bowling Products and 900 Global/AMF, along with Steve Johnson, executive director of the BPAA and Stu Upson, executive director of the USBC, will take part in the one-day meeting to discuss the future of youth bowling.

He will continue in that position with his new duties.

2010NorthPointeHSC_small.jpgMarshall Kent, Yakima, WA, and Heather Sharp Jacksonville, Fla., survived a competitive two days of bowling to win their respective male and female divisions in the 5th North Pointe Insurance $100,000 High School Open Singles (Bowling) Championship. The teens were among the largest field ever entered at the annual event according to the Bowling Proprietors' Association of America (BPAA). Kent and Sharp each won $15,000 in scholarship money to cap the three-day scratch competition held July 17-19, 2010, at Hindel Bowl, Indianapolis, IN.

Bowl for thousands at International Family Tournament in Euless, Texas

2010IFTLogo_small.jpg Some 60 teams representing 25 states and Canada are expected to descend upon North Texas July 29-31, 2010, to bowl for $70,000 in scholarship money at the 35th annual International Family Tournament (IFT) according to the BPAA. The IFT is an annual parent-student scholarship tournament sponsored by Georgia Coffee and presented by QubicaAMF and is the only sporting event in the United States in which parents participate with youth and teens for an international championship and scholarship funds.
