Sweden, England, Finland, Denmark to bowl for the Trios title

    Loos, Larsen, Agerbo lead in All Events after 18 of 24 games


    For the second time in as many events at the Men's European Championships, Sweden earned the No. 1 seed for the Trios finals, which will start a 8 p.m. CEST at Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria.

    Kim Bolleby, Dennis Eklund and Martin Larsen rolled games of 545, 664 and 673 on the long oil pattern (44') in the last squad of the preliminaries (Squad 1) to finish with 3843 total and an average of 213,50.

    Another two teams of Squad 1 made the top 4, who advanced to the semifinals. Matt Miller, Mike Quarry and Raymond Teece of England finished strong with 697 and 698 to shoot from nowhere into second place with 3796 (210,89).

    Jesper Agerbo, and Doubles champions Thomas Larsen and Mik Stampe of Denmark took the fourth and last place with 3715 (206,39). Previous leader Finland with Joonas Jehkinen, Perttu Jussila and Europe's top-ranked player, Osku Palermaa, slipped to third place with 3726 (207,00).

    No. 1 Sweden bowls No. 4 Denmark while No. 2 England meets No. 3 Finland in the other semifinal match. The winners bowl for the gold medal while the losers share the bronze medal. All matches are single-game matches.

    With two events (Doubles and Trios) in the books, Michael Loos of the host country Austria is the surprising leader in All Events with 3950 total and an average of 219,44. Thomas Larsen of Denmark was second with 3887 (215,94) and his compatriot Jesper Agerbo third with 3875 (215,28).

    The 5th Men's European Championships will be held from Aug. 16-26, 2012 at Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria. 204 players from 34 countries will bowl for gold, silver and bronze medals in Doubles, Trios, Teams, All Events (24-game total) and Masters.

    Preliminaries in Doubles will feature 12 games, in Trios and the five-player Team event six games, with the top 4 teams advancing to the playoffs. No. 1 will bowl No. 4 and No. 3 will bowl No. 2 in the semifinals. The winners will bowl for the title while the losers share the bronze medal. All matches were single-game matches.

    The top 24 players in All Events will advance to the Masters finals in best-of-three games single-elimination match play, which will conclude the championships on Saturday, Aug. 25. The championships features two oil conditioning pattern, number 1 is the medium pattern (38') and number two is the long pattern (44').

    The MEC also serves as qualifying event for the 2013 Combined World Championships which will be held from Aug. 18-31 at Sunset Station's Strike Zone bowling center in Henderson, Nev. in suburban Las Vegas, United States.

    Each country receives ranking points in each discipline according to a system decided by the European Tenpin Bowling Federation Congress in 2011. The top 15 countries qualify for the 2013 Combined World Championships.
