Colorful Opening Ceremonies kick off 2014 World Youth Championships

The 2014 World Youth Championships presented by The Chinese Gold & Silver Exchange Society (CGSE) are officially open after a stunning opening ceremony at South China Athletic Association (SCAA) Bowling Center in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, China.
At 6.30 p.m. Hong Kong time Master of Ceremony Ms. Astrid Lo (pictured right) welcomed all attendants to the Opening Ceremony, which started with the official march past of more than 250 players and the national anthem of Hong Kong, China.
Players, coaches, officials and guests were welcomed by Ms. Vivien Lau (left), BBS, JP, Hon. Life President of the Asian Bowling Federation, World Bowling Secretary General, and chairman of the WYC Organizing Committee and the Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress, who is hosting the biennial event.
The World Youth Championships is listed as 'M' Mark event (large-scale sport event) by the Hong Kong Government and will be participated by almost 400 under-21s, coaches and officials from 46 countries and regions.
Also addressing the ceremony were Kevin Dornberger (above right), United States, President of World Bowling and the World Tenpin Bowling Association, Mr. William Ko (left), BBS, MH, Chairman of Major Sports Events Committee (MSEC), one of three committees under the Sports Commission, and Mr. Timothy T. T. Fok (right), GBS, JP, IOC Member and President of Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China.
Unfortunately, Dr. Haywood Cheung, President of presenting sponsor The Chinese Gold & Silver Exchange Society, could not attend the Opening Ceremony due to other commitments.
The athletes' and technical officials' oath were taken by Hong Kong top players Joan Cheng and Michael Mak (on the left, l-r) and head coach Ming Leung (right).
The Opening Ceremony ended with Mr. Fok, Mr. Ko, the Hon. Ma Fung Kwok, SBS, JP, Wang Chun Nam, Vice Chaiman of the host South China Athletic Association, and Mr. Dornberger accompanied by Ms. Lau performing the "eye-dotting ceremony" for the lion dance after which Mr. Fok declared the 13th World Youth Championships open.
The announcement was followed by the lion dance performance and a group photo (left) before the lions led the players march out.
Earlier on Wednesday, two two-hour squads of unofficial practice were offered to the teams who had already been arrived.
In the Team Managers Meeting, which was held at nearby Olympic House, World Tenpin Bowling Association technical delegate John Janawicz (pictured right with Australia's Mike Seymour, left) announced the two lane conditioning patterns for this Championships.
The internationally renowned lane expert and excellent bowler (he has won medals at World and American Zone Championships as well as USBC Open Championships) has chosen the 35-feet Beijing and the 45-feet Mexico City patterns from the 'short' and 'long' oil patterns of the current World Bowling library of lane conditioning patterns.

The more than 160 boys and almost 100 girls, who must be born on January 1st, 1993 to on December 31st, 2000, will compete in Singles, Doubles, Team, All-Events and match-play Masters. The first day of competition in the World Youth Championships is on Friday.
In cooperation with the Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) and the Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress, Bowlingdigital.com will cover the Championships live from Hong Kong.
