Pedersen, Torgersen, Flack add their names to the leaderboard in Norwegian Open

    Glenn Morten Pedersen leads Thursday's Squads 8 & 9 with 1439; Pat Torgersen is the best woman in fifth place with 1431; Erland Lund continues to lead the 112-player field with 1463; score to make the cut in 42nd place is 1237 (206.17)

    2014EBT16GlennMortenPedersen.jpg2014EBT17ErlandLund.jpgNorwegian national team members Glenn Morten Pedersen and Patcharin Torgersen became the seventh and eighth player in the Norwegian Open 2014 by Brunswick, who cracked the 1400-mark, Monday at Veitvet Bowling Center in Oslo, Norway.

    Pedersen (pictured left) led Squad 9 with 1439 total and an average of 239.83 to overtake third place in overall qualifying standings. Pedersen had games of 245, 264, 256, 228, 192 and 254.

    Erland Lund (right) of Norway, who set the pace with 1463 (243.83 average) including a 300 game in Squad 2, continued to lead the 112-player field from Iceland, Sweden and Norway, with Tor Inge Jansen, Norway, in second place with 1448.

    2014EBT17PatcharinTorgersen.jpg2014EBT17NinaFlack.jpgTorgersen (left) averaged 230.50 to lead Squad 8 with 1383 scratch and 1431 total. She had games of 258, 211, 236, 198, 212 and 268 and added 8 pins handicap each game, a standard for women in the European Bowling Tour.

    Nina Flack (right) of Sweden, who won two EBT tournaments in 2008 including the Qatar Open, was second in both squads on Monday. She totaled 1352 in Squad 8 and started Squad 9 with games of 234, 248, 223, 215 and 259 (1179, 235.80) to have a shot at the lead.

    She finished with 172 though to miss the magic 1400-mark by one pin to move into ninth place with 1399 including handicap.

Øyvind Harang (right) of Norway rounds out the top 10 with 1389. The top 8 players at the end of the qualifying will earn four byes in Sunday's finals.

    With nine of 22 qualifying squads in the books, Tom Martin Solberg of Norway holds the 42nd and last spot to advance with 1237 or an average of 206.17.

    Qualifying continues on Tuesday, Oct. 7, with Squads 10 & 11 scheduled to start at 5 and 8.30 p.m. Central European Summer Time (CEST).

    2014NorwegianOpenLogo.jpg The Norwegian Open 2014 by Brunswick is the 17th stop of the 2014 European Bowling Tour and the seventh out of nine EBT "Satellite" events this season. The tournament will be held from Oct. 3-12 at Veitvet Bowling Center in Oslo.

    The total prize fund is 239.000 Kronor or 29.000 Euro with 40.000 NOK or approx. 4.850 Euro going to the winner. The prize money for the top three women in qualifying is guaranteed (5.000, 3.000 and 2.000 Kronor). Low to cash is 60th place worth 1.000 NOK or 120 Euro.

    Qualifying of the Norwegian Open began Friday, Oct. 3 and runs through Saturday, Oct. 11 with the final Squad 22 scheduled for 5 p.m. local time (CEST). Women receive 8 pins handicap each game, an equality handicap provided to women in every event on the European Bowling Tour.

    Total 60 players will advance to the finals on Saturday (Semifinal Round 1 and 2) and Sunday, Oct. 11 & 12:
    • the top 42 players from the overall qualifying standings
    • two players from a separate leaderboard of Squad 1-7, who are not among the top 42
    • the next four women
    • the next four juniors (must not be born before Sept. 1, 1996)
    • the next four seniors (must be 50 years of age at the first day of the tournament)
    • and two players each from the Turbo 1 and 2 list (highest score in qualifying game 5 and 6, respectively; separate fee necessary).

    The top 8 qualifiers earn four byes and will be seeded in Round 4, places 9-16 go to Round 3, places 17-24 start in Round 2 and places 25-28 begin in Round 1. The other 32 finalists advance to Saturday's Semifinal Round 1 which begins at 9 p.m. CEST.

    The top 24 players after three game scratch advance to the Semifinal Round 2, which gets underway at 10:30 p.m. Those 24 bowl another three games with the pinfall carried over. The top 12 qualify for Final Round 1 starting on Sunday morning at 9 a.m.

    The remaining forty players will determine the champion in five three-game rounds (rounds 1-4 starting from scratch). The field will be trimmed from 40 to 32, 24, 16, and then eight who bowl a final three-game block with the pinfall from Round 4 carried forward.

    The player with the highest six-game total will earn the EBT title, 50 ranking points and the 40.000 NOK top prize.

    2014EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2014 European Bowling Tour features 19 tournaments in 13 countries. In its 15th season, the EBT consists of two Platinum, six Gold, three Silver and eight Satellite tournaments. The total prize fund is almost one million Euro.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. Those points will be tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 12 men and top 12 women, who will compete in the eighth EBT Masters July 6, 2015 at Bowling Chamartín in Madrid, Spain, immediately following the III Brunswick Madrid Challenge.
