Asbaty impressively wins women's World Ranking Masters

    2004WRMDiandraAsbaty2.jpg Diandra Asbaty of the United States defeated Shalin Zulkifli of Malaysia, 2-0 en route to claim the women's title in the World Ranking Masters at Planet Bowling in Moscow.

    The 23-year old 6-time Team USA member started out the championship match in best-of-three-game format commandingly, by connecting for a five-bagger mid-game and another four-bagger in the 9th and 10th frame for a 247-163 win.

    She carried the momentum into game two as she struck on her first nine shots before she left an 8-count to coast to victory, 277-169.

    This marks the first time in the four-year history of the World Ranking Masters that an American bowler, man or woman, won the title.

    Jesmine Ho and Jennifer Tan of Singapore won the women's titles in 2001 and 2002, resp. 2003 WRM champion Britt Bröndsted of Denmark didn't qualify to defend her title.

    Asbaty (left), who won the Masters title at the 2003 World Championships, locked up her berth into the finals with a sweep of Finn Reija Lunden, 2-0, in the best-of-three-game single elimination format. Zulkifli (right) flew past Kirsten Penny of England.

     Shalin Zulkifli of Malaysia defeated Korea's Lee Eun Ock, 2-0 in the women's World Ranking Masters quarterfinals in best-of-three games format.

    World Masters Champion Diandra Asbaty, USA, made quick work of Colombia's Clara Juliana Guerrero, 2-0.

    The other matches went the distance. Finn Reija Lunden (pictured) ousted 2002 WRM champion Jennifer Tan from Singapore, 212-157, in the decisive game and Kirsten Penny, England, survived a strong charge by Venezuela's Alicia Marcano 211-205.
