Palermaa beats Torgersen to claim 9th World Ranking Masters

After leading the 2007 and 2008 European Bowling Tour rankings and his victory in the inaugural EBT Masters, Osku Palermaa, Finland, became the top-ranked amateur bowler in the world as he claimed the 9th World Ranking Masters at Oltremare Bowling Arena in Naples, Italy. In a high-scoring men's final in bets-of-three games format, the two-hander defeated equally-tough Norwegian Tore Torgersen, 259-234 and 248-238 for a 2-0 victory. Palermaa (l.) received $10.000 and Torgersen (r.) pocketed 5.000.

Siti Safiyah Amirah wins women's title in 2009 World Ranking Masters

Amirah won the first game with 215.199 and sealed the victory with a 175-166 low-scoring encounter in game #2. Hulsch received $5,000 for second place. Qualifying leader Wendy Kok and Ghislaine van der Tol, both Netherlands, finished in 3rd and 4th place, worth $3,000 apiece.

Lucas Legnani shoots 290 to win the men's qualifying at World Ranking Masters

2009EBT04LucasLegnani_small.jpgLucas Legnani (pictured) from Argentina finished the third 8-game block on dual lane condition with a 290 game to help grab the top seed for the men's single-elimination best-of-three games finals and his second 1.000 U.S. Dollar bonus. Legnani led the field of 24 bowlers from 17 countries with 5430 24-game total and an average of 226.25. Joining Legnani in the finals are six Europeans including three Englishmen and Basel Al-Anzi, Kuwait, representing the Asian Bowling Federation.

Wendy Kok leads top 8 women into World Ranking Masters finals

EBT08WendyKok_small.jpgWendy Kok (pictured left), Netherlands, was the most versatile player among the 23 women from 15 countries as she finished the qualifying of the 9th World Ranking Masters atop the leaderboard with 4935 pinfall total and an average of 206.62. The daughter of former Dutch standout Eric Kok led the top 8 players - five players from Europe, two from America and one from Asia representing five countries - into the single-elimination best-of-three games finals. As the qualifying leader, Kok received a 1.000 U.S. Dollar bonus.

Van der Tol wins medium-oil contest to move into the lead in women's World Ranking Masters

Thursday en route to overtake the lead in the women's World Ranking Masters after 16 of 24 qualifying games. The lefty had eight games between 192 and 236 for 1714 8-game pinfall (214.25) and a 3337 total pinfall or an average of 208.56 over 16 games. As the block winner, van der Tol received a 1.000 U.S. Dollar bonus. Short-oil leader Tina Hulsch, Germany, posted the sixth-best 1645 series but fell to second place with 3319.

Lucas Legnani powers his way into the lead in World Ranking Masters Block 2

2009EBT04LucasLegnani_small.jpgArgentina's No.1 bowler Lucas Legnani (pictured) rolled his second consecutive 1800-plus series at the 9th World Ranking Masters in Naples, Italy, en route to overtake the lead in the men's qualifying after two out of three 8-game blocks with 3646 pinfall total and an overall average of 227.88. Legnani, who won his first title on the European Bowling Tour in Catalonia about two month ago, rolled two 278 games on the medium pattern (40 feet) in the fourth and sixth game of the block and chalked up 1843 pins, an average of 230.38 per game. He received a 1.000 U.S. Dollar bonus for leading the block.

The two-hander from Finland, who has won the European Bowling Tour rankings in the past two years, used high games of 246 and 245 and five games between 231 and 237 to overtake the first round lead with 1861 pinfall total or an average of 232.62. Palermaa received a 1.000 U.S. Dollar bonus.

The European women set the pace on the short oil pattern (34 feet) as they took the top 3 spots and five out of the top 8. Tina Hulsch (pictured), Germany, finished the 8-game block with 247, 235 and 215 en route to win the short-oil contest with 1674 pinfall total and an average of 209.25. Hulsch received a 1.000 U.S. Dollar bonus.
