Reija Lunden takes first round lead in women's WRM

    The two-time World Team Cup champion, who came to the tournament as a substitute, posted a 1295, six-game total on the short-oil pattern, an average of 215,83. She received a $1,000 check for the daily winner from Kegel president John Davis (pictured).

    2003WRMSofiaGranda.jpg Third place belongs to World Games champion Sofia Granda (left) from Guatemala, 1267. Another German, Patricia Schwarz, is in fourth place at 1259, with Britt Bröndsted, Denmark, in fifth 1235.

    Rounding out the top eight are Malaysians Sarah Yap, 1218; Shalin Zulkifli, 1205 and Wendy Chai, 1190. The top 8 after the 24-game preliminaries will advance to the single elimination finals.

    2003WRMJenniferTan.jpg Defending World Ranking Masters champion Jennifer Tan (left) from Singapore is just 1 pin out of the top 8 in 9th position. Her compatriot Jesmine Ho, winner in 2001 and runner-up in 2002, is 20th at 1119 (186,5 average).

    The women are done for today and will return Monday morning at 9 a.m. for the second block on the long-oil pattern.
