Kelly Bednar named IBPSIA Managing Director

2009IBPSIAMDKellyBednar_small.jpgBowling industry veteran Kelly Bednar (pictured left) has been named managing director for the International Bowling Pro Shop and Instructors Association (IBPSIA), according to the Bowling Proprietors' Association of America (BPAA) who manages the organization. Bednar, Director of Youth and Education for BPAA, and Skills Center Director for Strike Ten Entertainment (STE) replaces Bill Supper, who was tapped to become executive director of the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame. Both job changes take effect September 1.

Foundation and its charities while competing as an exempt player on the 2009-10 Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour.

Mike Fagan inks deal with Full Tilt Poker

Marks the first time that internet poker giant has been involved in bowling

Fagan will be sporting Full Tilt Poker gear at the upcoming PBA Geico Team Shootout. "I have been playing on Full Tilt Poker for years and extremely excited to be aboard with them." Fagan said of his new sponsor, "Bowling and playing poker go hand in hand and I think it's a great fit." This marks the first time that Full Tilt Poker has been involved in bowling.

Company launches new program for "brick and mortar" pro shops

EboniteLogo_mini.jpgIn response to increasing pricing pressure being driven by Internet retailers, Ebonite International has introduced a new Gold Pro Shop Program which provides significant rebates to pro shops based on the amount of products purchased from any combination of Ebonite International brands. The Gold Pro Shop Program is available only to "brick and mortar" pro shops as defined by Ebonite International (shops with a physical store front business either within a bowling center or shopping area) and is not available to online-only retailers.

You would be wrong, John Berglund likes to be daring, likes to ride the waves and loves winding up on a beach after a great ride to this point in his successful life. That may help explain why he is retiring at the apex of his career as BPAA executive director and is headed to retirement on a Caribbean Island where he and his wife are going to try to sell perfume to tourist on St. Martens Island.

Chattanooga team beats 3-game national record

3937 rolled by team featuring Columbia 300 products

ProBowlWest3937_small.jpgThe 5-man Pro Bowl West team from Chattanooga set a new national 3-game record score on Monday, March 30, with four team members using Columbia 300 and Ebonite balls (pending approval by USBC). The new record score, 3937, thrown at Holiday Bowl Brainerd replaces the previous record of 3934 posted in New Castle, Delaware in 2004. Team Captain Frank Massengale had 784, Chris Cross 805, Chris Massengale 828, Anthony Reviere 748, and Gary Workman 772.

Mini-Eliminator signs 3-year deal with South Point Las Vegas

 Pinacle Events, owners of the world famous Mini-Eliminators (Minis), announced an agreement with The South Point Hotel & Casino to host the Minis for the next three years. This historic partnership, which covers a total of 7 events, guarantees The Mini-Eliminators will be held twice a year for the next 3 years. The first event of the new contract is the Summer Mini; which is being held from Tuesday, June 30 through Saturday, July 4, 2009.

Long-time AMF bowling executive Woody Woodruff dies

WoodyWoodruff.jpgRaymond Robert (Woody) Woodruff, a long-time executive with AMF Bowling, died peacefully surrounded by his family on March 13. He was 90. Born in Highland Falls, N.Y., Woodruff joined AMF in 1945 after serving in the U.S. Navy. He almost immediately became involved with the development of the first AMF Automatic Pinspotter. As a member of the engineering and installation team, he was directly involved in AMF's public introduction of the machine that changed the face of bowling forever in Buffalo, N.Y., in 1946. Woodruff, who retired as Vice President of Marketing for AMF's Bowling Division in 1983 after a 38-year career, created the first AMF Pro Staff, anchored by the signing of Dick Weber as the company's leading ambassador.

The 21-year-old Twinsburg resident donned well-worn, two-tone bowling shoes -- to go with her ruffled black skirt and matching top -- as she eyed the pins on lane 42 of Roseland Lanes in Oakwood. Hey, why dance when you can bowl the night away? "You get to hang out with friends, have fun and it doesn't cost a lot of money," said Nash, after putting the finishing touches on a 142-score game. "And the carpet here is colorful." A perfect game!

Nicholson, former head of lane maintenance for the PBA, among his many other positions, has proven many times over that he can assist tournament promoters put out a consistent and playable pattern. According to Nicholson, "Kegel will also send in Service representative Bud Dacheax to ensure that the Kegel lane machines are all up to par and that the players can rest assured that everything will be as professional as humanly possible."
