Goizueta shifts tactics for Networking Events By Tiffany Han

Company representatives and Goizueta Business School MBA students shed their suits on Friday to explore a new networking approach at the annual Goizueta Career Connection. The event began with traditional meet-and-greet activities but deviated from the past by ending with a casual bowling night. "Formal events are great and serve a purpose, and it's certainly important to have that interaction. But having the social aspect is becoming more prevalent," said Wendy Tsung, associate dean and executive director of Goizueta MBA career services.

Columbia 300 announces 2007-08 John Jowdy Scholarship Fund

John Jowdy.jpg Columbia 300 has announced the 2007-08 John Jowdy Scholarship Fund and made the application process even more accessible to students by posting the application and related instructions on the internet. In its 17th year, the John Jowdy Scholarship Fund was created not only to honor a bowling legend, but also to reward and support bowling's youth. John Jowdy (pictured) was inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame in 1988 and the American Bowling Congress Hall of Fame in 2001 for meritorious service to the game.

Kenneth Judge hits National Strike Challenge Jackpot to win $1246.50

David Traber's NSC is a nationwide strike jackpot program for league bowlers

NationalStrikeChallengeLogo.jpg Kenneth Judge, Pflugerville, Texas, rolled strikes in the third, sixth and 9th frames in each of his three games, plus the first strike in the 10th frame of the final game to become the first winner of David Traber's National Strike Challenge. Bowling in the Wild Ones league at Interstate Lanes in Round Rock, Texas, the twenty-two year old then had a shot at also winning the optional Super Strike Challenge Jackpot by getting the next two strikes.

Pro bowler Robert Smith signs landmark deal with Elite Bowling International

2007RobertSmith_small.jpg Robert Smith (left) is entering his 10th year on the Professional Bowling Association Tour with a new sponsor: Elite Bowling International. Formerly with Storm Bowling, Robert has signed an industry breakthrough, one year deal with Elite. Smith currently has $688,246 in PBA winnings, six career Denny's PBA Tour titles and nine PBA regional crowns. His national titles include winning the 2000 U.S. Open Championship and 2002 Japan Cup.

Hammer adds Chad Kloss to PBA Tour Staff

ChadKlossHammer_small.jpg With the start of the Tour right around the corner, Hammer has added another talented player, Chad Kloss, to its PBA Tour roster for the 07-08 season. "Chad's a talented, powerful player on the PBA circuit and he'll be a great addition to our dynamic team," said Brian Graham, Hammer brand manager. Since early childhood, Kloss has dreamed of being a professional bowler and he made that dream a reality in 2005 when he joined the PBA.

Macquarie Bank-owned AMF Bowling has opened the doors to Australia's largest bowling centre - a $6 million leisure park with 38 glow-in-the dark lanes and pumping nightclub music.
Macquarie Leisure Trust Group paid $67 million for AMF's 40 bowling centres in 2004 and is now opening the new-look centres around Sydney in a bid to spark a new generation of interest in the tenpin sport.

Things are looking Upp for Turbo

TurboGripsLogo.jpg Turbo 2-N-1 Grips has announced a new staff addition. Lee Upp, Las Vegas, has joined the sales team as Western Region Sales Manager. Upp, 51, will replace Bugsy Kelly, who resigned to pursue another opportunity. Upp was associated with the Coast bowling centers, mostly in the Orleans pro shop from 1996-2003. He then represented two bowling product distributors, Complete Bowling Supply of Las Vegas, and Cal Bowling supply before taking the job with Turbo.

Brunswick announces three-year Denny's PBA Tour Sponsorship

Virtual Bowling arrives in Kaiserslautern

The U.S. Army Garrison's Emerald Alley, located at Armstrong's Club in Kaiserslautern, is the very first military facility in Germany to offer Virtual Bowling. In 2004, the first Virtual Bowling alley was installed at the Hard Rock Café in Gothenburg, Sweden. Since then, its popularity has increased worldwide. Virtual Bowling has been installed in homes, resorts, cruise ships, and clubs in Sweden, Norway, Germany, Spain, Austria, the Czech Republic, Russia and the United States.

But bowling is only part of the story at this 78,000-square-foot recreation behemoth, opened last May and part of a nationwide chain. "This is the future of bowling," asserts Main Event general manager Walt Powell. "There's been a stigma over the last decade with bowling being all about the smoking, fat, alcoholic league bowler. That's not where the money is anymore. Now it's all about family-centered fun."

Tessmar elected President of BBIA

The well-known manufacturing and distributors trade group, which started in 1940, chose Tessmar as its new President during the recent BBIA annual meeting in Palm Harbor, Florida. Tessmar is only the fourth woman to lead the organization, and the first from a bowling manufacturing company.

Brunswick Bowling welcomes new Director of Product Management

Keith Kargl has joined the bowling center equipment group, reporting to Jim Fox, vice president bowling center equipment.
