Ebonite International creates new coaching, bowler development program under the Powerhouse® brand

Industry Veteran Brian Chilcutt to lead initiative

Veteran coach and pro shop operator, Brian Chilcutt (pictured), has accepted this new position with the Powerhouse™ brand. In that capacity, he will oversee the company's bowling and bowler development initiatives as well as the Powerhouse™ Pro Shop Equipment and Pro Shop Training Clinic businesses.

Columbia 300 continues sponsorship of Mini Eliminator

B.E.R. 2008: a good launch

2008BERRimini_small.jpg The first edition of B.E.R. (Bowling Event Rimini) ended on March 16 at Rimini Fiera. The international trade show dedicated to bowling was organized by Rimini Fiera SpA and Facto Edizioni, with the support of the FISB (Italian Bowling Federation) and the EBPA (European Bowling Proprietors' Association). B.E.R. was held simultaneously with the 20th edition of ENADA Spring, one of Europe's leading expos in the coin-op sector, and the two trade shows were attended by a total of 25,168 visitors.

Russia: Challenges and problems in trading on bowling's new frontier

Russia is the world's largest country in terms of land mass – roughly twice as big as the USA. Much of the terrain and climate however render huge areas difficult to develop economically. Bowling is becoming more popular every year. What took 30 years in Europe to achieve we have done in ten. There is also a proliferation of major tournaments, TV coverage, trade shows and professional bowler clinics. As a sport in its own right Russian bowling has made great strides. In 2006-2007 there were 25 official tournaments in the Federation of Sports Bowling of Russia a (FSBR) calendar.

Bowling Event Rimini ready to roll

Rimini Expo Center in Rimini, Italy (March 13-16, 2008)

2008BERRimini_small.jpg Everything is now in place for the first B.E.R., Bowling Event Rimini, the international bowling trade show to be held in Rimini, Italy. The event is organized by Rimini Fiera SpA and Facto Edizioni with the backing of FISB, the Italian Sport Bowling Federation and EBPA, the European Bowling Proprietors Association. To make it easier for visitors to access B.E.R. Rimini Fiera has set up an online registration procedure to save time.

Kegel creates a series of different types of oil patterns: the 'Kegel Navigation Patterns'

KNPRecreationIcon1.jpg KNPSportIcon1.jpg Lake Wales, Fla. based Kegel company has created the 'Kegel Navigation Patterns' to educate and increase awareness about different types of oil patterns as well as help the bowling center proprietors, mechanics and tournament organizers provide their customers with some other quality pattern options. "Creating oil patterns that are very easy is not too difficult. Creating oil patterns that are very tough is also not too difficult. Creating oil patterns that are challenging but not cruel to the bowlers however is very difficult," said Kegel's Ted Thompson.

Jeff Ussery to head Hammer and Robby's brands

HammerJeffUssery_small.jpg Effective today, Jeff Ussery will serve as the brand manager for Hammer and Robby's. Ussery has spent the last year as the company's Powerhouse™ brand manager and the last two years as a master instructor of Powerhouse™ Training Clinics. Ussery is a 2000 graduate of the University of Kansas, where he bowled on the men's team, and a former pro shop owner and operator. He has also bowled several amateur tournaments including the True Amateur Tournament and the Mini Eliminator.

Shannon O'Keefe joins the Storm Staff of Champions

O'Keefe, 28, had a breakthrough year in 2007 - highlighted by her singles gold medal at the Women's World Championships in Monterrey, Mexico, and runner-up finish at the U.S. Women's Open. In the U.S. Open quarterfinals, she rolled a 299 game - nationally televised on ESPN.

Shifting pin production to contract manufacturer offers market advantages for Brunswick Bowling

Brunswick Bowling & Billiards is a unit of Brunswick Corporation (NYSE: BC). "The marketplace has evolved, and the industry has more capacity to provide pins than it can support," explained Warren N. Hardie, president of Brunswick Bowling & Billiards.

Past and present NFL greats go bowling for kids at third annual Super Bowl Celebrity Bowling Classic

The event is open to amateur bowlers and will be held at 9 p.m. on Thursday, January 31 at AMF Christown Lanes in Phoenix, host city to Super Bowl XLII. Hall of Famer and former Pittsburgh Steelers receiver and television broadcaster Lynn Swann (pictured) will act as the event spokesperson and will lead the field of celebrities.

USBC'S Tom Clark is 2008 BBIA Industry Service Award Recipient

Each year, BBIA presents its Industry Service Award for contributions by an individual who has excelled in promoting and advancing the sport in the billiards and/or bowling industry. The award will be presented in Cancun, Mexico May 13.

STE Skills Center to create Bowling Coaches/Instructors Award

Bowling Coaches/Instructors Hall of Fame may also be in the works

The Skills Center, a division of Strike Ten Entertainment (STE), will be establishing a new national recognition for bowling coaches and/or instructors through the presentation of a new award. The National Coaching/Instructors Award, which will honor an outstanding bowling coach/instructor. Instituting this new award may also lead to the creation of a hall of fame for bowling coaches and instructors. A task force has been formed to develop award criteria, annually review candidates as well as explore the creation of a bowling coaches/instructors hall of fame.

While PBA stalwart Jason Couch remains on Ebonite's staff, he will not compete on the PBA Tour this year due to a knee injury. "We are certainly to pleased to have Tommy and Dino represent our brand at our sport's highest level. We are confident that they will both have incredible years," said Ed Gallagher, Ebonite brand manager.

Columbia 300 signs Clara Guerrero to staff contract

2007ClaraGuerreroColumbia_small.jpg Columbia 300 has signed Clara Guerrero, an up-and-coming young bowling star, to a staff contract. Guerrero will bowl with Columbia 300 equipment in tournaments worldwide including the PBA women's series this fall. "Clara is a very skilled young bowler who has shown enormous talent and even greater potential for a strong career in bowling," said Chad Murphy, Columbia 300 brand manager. The right-hander, who now resides in Austin, Texas, just competed in her first PBA Regional Event and placed third, behind Chris Simmons and fellow Columbia 300 staff player, Chris Barnes.
