Bowling legend Len Nicholson, who had a major impact on the careers of many of the greatest professional bowlers in history and the sport itself, shared some of his insight from 50 years of industry experience in his June 25 keynote address to open the International Bowling Pro Shop and Instructors Association Educational Conference and Bowling Coaches Summit. The summit is being held in conjunction with International Bowl Expo June 28-30 in Las Vegas.
Pennsylvania coach's commitment earns national USBC Youth honor
Bill Tetterton Jr., Kenhorst, Pa., has been selected by the United States Bowling Congress Youth Committee as the USBC Youth program's David Dahms Coach of the Year. The honor recognizes Tetterton's continued efforts to help young bowlers improve their skills and experience a variety of competitive opportunities. "I will accept this honor on behalf of the many hardworking volunteers here in Berks County," Tetterton said.

Great learning and networking opportunities will abound this year at the 2006 International Bowling Pro Shop and Instructors Association (IBPSIA) International Educational Conference and Bowling Coaches Summit to be held June 25-27 in Las Vegas. Len Nicholson, who is host of "The Phantom" weekly internet radio talk show, will deliver the keynote address.

Team USA head coach Jeri Edwards (pictured), Medina, Ohio, Junior Team USA head coach Rod Ross, Manteca, Calif., and Kelly Bednar, a USBC Coaching Silver coach and Silver Master Instructor from Raleigh, N.C. are the United States Bowling Congress nominees for the United States Olympic Committee's 2005 Coach of the Year awards.
After spending the holiday season with family, Malaysian national bowler Sarah Yap is about ready to embark in her new career on Saipan as coach of the CNMI national bowling team. Yap acknowledged that she is due back to the islands in Jan. 7 at which time she will assume the coaching reins for both the youth and national bowling programs.
Mark Rabago of the Saipan Tribune reports that professional bowler Sarah Yap of Malaysia has been hired by the Saipan Bowling Association to serve as the full-time coach of both the senior and junior national teams. Saipan is the biggest island of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), a chain of 14 volcanic islands located in the Western Pacific at the Eastern boundary of the Philippine Sea.

The United States Bowling Congress has announced an all-star lineup of the sport's top athletes who will serve as certified trainers for its new Interscholastic Coaching Certification Program slated to begin this summer. Among the elite lineup of trainers are PBA pros Lonnie Waliczek (pictured)Â and Rick Steelsmith, former PWBA stars Carolyn Dorin-Ballard and Kim Terrell, Team USA member Diandra Asbaty and noted instructor Ron Hatfield.
I have to confess that I never really appreciated the C.A.T.S. scoring device until attending the Kegel World Ranking Tournament this week. Being a Doubting Thomas about things I don't understand is sometimes good because I have a greater appreciation for the device when you see it in operation. The Kegel Training Center here is a computerized marvel compared to all other bowling facilities world wide.
And C.A.T.S. (Computer Aided Tracking System) is a marvelous device for spectators, bowlers, coaches and even writers.
