Norway comes from behind to take the No. 1 seed for MEC Trios finals

England and both Swedish trios to complete the shootout

Mads Sandbækken, Petter Hansen and Tore Torgersen (l-r) from Norway rolled six games between 613 and 669 en route to earn the No. 1 seed for the Trios finals in the Men's European Championships at Lovvang Bowling Center in Aalborg, Denmark.

Starting the day in fifth place after a 1875 3-game series on short oil, the Norwegians posted the second-highest 1937 on long oil to leap four spots with 3812 total and a team average of 211.78.

Hansen led the way with the field-best 721 series today and highest individual series of the 165 competitors in the Trios event with 1411 or an average of 235.17. Hansen regained the lead in All Events after 18 of 24 games. Sandbækken contributed 1181 and Torgersen added 1220.

Dominic Barrett, Stuart Williams and Matt Chamberlain (l-r), England, leaped one spot to second place behind an 1855 series with 3799 pinfall total (211.06).

The Swedish teams, who led the 55 trios from 29 countries after the first day, fell to third and fourth place, which makes an all-Swedish championship match still possible.

Mathias Årup, Erik Andersin and Dennis Eklund (l-r), Sweden, slipped one spot to third place behind an 1805 series on long oil with 3786 pinfall total (210.33).

Short oil leader Martin Larsen, Robert Andersson and Martin Paulsson had a sub-par 1753 series on long to fall three places and take the fourth and final spot to advance with 3736 (207.56).

Jesper Agerbo, Frederik Øhrgaard and Thomas Larsen of the host country Denmark were second to the Swedes in Squad 3 yesterday and led the squad on long oil with 1856, but fell 25 pins short to miss the cut in fifth place with 3711 (206.17).

The top 4 trios advanced to the semifinals at 7.30pm, The No. 1 after 6 games will bowl the No. 4 seed and the No. 2 takes on No. 3 in the semifinals. The winners will bowl for the title at 8.30pm and the losers will share the bronze medal. All matches are one-game matches.
