Five women atop the leaderboard in Semifinal Round One at Norwegian Open

    National team members from Sweden, Norway and Denmark lead the top 24 players into Semifinal Round Two

    2014EBT17RebeckaLarsen.jpg2014EBT17AndreaHansen.jpgThe semifinals in the Norwegian Open 2014 by Brunswick got underway Saturday evening at Veitvet Bowling Center in Oslo, Norway with players ranked 29th to 60th in qualifying playing three games scratch.

    Five women's national team members from Sweden, Norway and Denmark topped the leaderboard as 32-player field was cut to the top 24, who advance to second round.

    2014EBT17MaiGingeJensen.jpg2014EBT17BrittBrondsted.jpgTwo-time European champion Rebecka Larsen (above left) of Sweden rolled games of 228, 246 and 237, an average of 237, to lead the round with 735 total including eight pins handicap per game. Andrea E. Hansen (above right) of Norway was 26 pins behind with 709 including three games between 222 and 237.

    Places three to five belonged to Danish women. World champion Mai Ginge Jensen (left) led the trio with 707 including games between 223 and 234 and was followed by World Ranking Masters champion Britt Brøndsted (right) with 683 and Pernille W. Rasmussen (below left) with 671.

His compatriot Patrik Jannik Soerensen took the 24th and final spot to advance to Semifinal Round Two with 573 and an average of 191.

    The top 24 bowl another three-game set with Round One pinfall being carried forward. The 12 will meet the top 28 qualifiers in Sunday's finals starting at 10 a.m. Central European Summer Time (CEST).

    2014NorwegianOpenLogo.jpg The Norwegian Open 2014 by Brunswick is the 17th stop of the 2014 European Bowling Tour and the seventh out of nine EBT "Satellite" events this season. The tournament will be held from Oct. 3-12 at Veitvet Bowling Center in Oslo.

    The total prize fund is 239.000 Kronor or 29.000 Euro with 40.000 NOK or approx. 4.850 Euro going to the winner.

The finals will be on Sunday, October 12, completed in the late afternoon.

    Qualifying of the Norwegian Open began Friday, Oct. 3 and ran through Saturday, Oct. 11. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game, an equality handicap provided to women in every event on the European Bowling Tour. Total 60 players advanced to the finals on Saturday (Semifinal Round 1 and 2) and Sunday, Oct. 11 & 12.

    The top 8 qualifiers earn four byes and will be seeded in Round 4, places 9-16 go to Round 3, places 17-24 start in Round 2 and places 25-28 begin in Round 1. The other 32 finalists advanced to Semifinal Round 1.

    The top 24 players after three game scratch advanced to the Semifinal Round 2, which gets underway at 10:30 p.m. Those 24 bowl another three games with the pinfall carried over. The top 12 qualify for Final Round 1 starting on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.

    The remaining forty players will determine the champion in five three-game rounds (rounds 1-4 starting from scratch). The field will be trimmed from 40 to 32, 24, 16, and then eight who bowl a final three-game block with the pinfall from Round 4 carried forward.

    The player with the highest six-game total will earn the EBT title, 50 ranking points and the 40.000 NOK top prize.

    2014EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2014 European Bowling Tour features 19 tournaments in 13 countries. In its 15th season, the EBT consists of two Platinum, six Gold, three Silver and eight Satellite tournaments. The total prize fund is almost one million Euro.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. Those points will be tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 12 men and top 12 women, who will compete in the eighth EBT Masters July 6, 2015 at Bowling Chamartín in Madrid, Spain, immediately following the III Brunswick Madrid Challenge.
