Walter Ray Williams Jr. shines as April IBMA Bowler of the Month

2013PBA5002WalterRayWilliams2_small.jpgWalter Ray Williams Jr. (pictured) of Ocala, Florida, has been chosen as the April 2013 Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association. Williams Jr. defeated fellow PBA Hall of Famer Amleto Monacelli, Venezuela, 276-216, for the title of the PBA50 Sun Bowl in The Villages, presented by Hammer. It is the fifth PBA50 crown for the reigning PBA50 Player of the Year. In very close voting this month, others receiving votes were Joe Scarborough, Bob Learn Jr., Bill O'Neill and Joline Persson-Planefors, Sweden.

International Bowling Media Association announces 2012-13 awards

Honors to Dave Luby, Mark Gerberich and Kegel/John Davis; Asbaty, Fagan capture inaugural IBMA Bowler of the Year honors

IBMALogo_small.jpgThe International Bowling Media Association (IBMA) has announced its list of award winners for 2012-13. Three bowling visionaries are to be recognized for their contributions to the sport and industry of bowling. The Alberta Crowe Meritorious Service Award was awarded to Kegel/John Davis. Former PBA commissioner Mark Gerberich received the Hennessy Award of Merit and Bowlers Journal founder Dave Luby was named Mort Luby Hall of Fame Award winner.

Pete Weber marches on as March IBMA Bowler of the Month

Pete Weber (pictured left) of St. Ann, Missouri, has been chosen as the March 2013 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association. Weber defeated Australian two-hander Jason Belmonte for the 2013 Barbasol PBA Tournament of Champions, 224-179. This title marks Weber's tenth PBA major championship, tying Earl Anthony atop the all-time list. At age 50, Weber became the first player in PBA history to complete the Triple Crown for a second time.

IBMA announces eight nominees for men's and women's Collegiate Bowlers of the Year

Five international bowlers among the eight female nominees

IBMALogo_small.jpgThe International Bowling Media Association (formerly Bowling Writers Association of America) has announced the sixteen nominees for the 2013 Collegiate Bowler of the Year. The committee, comprised of IBMA members who are bowling media and former college coaches, met on March 26, 2013 to determine the top eight male and female players eligible to receive the award. The 2012 Collegiate Bowlers of the Year were Jazreel Tan, Wichita State and Marshall Kent, Robert Morris-Illinois. Both players are in the running again this year.

Jason Belmonte masters February IBMA Bowler of the Month

201213PBA11JasonBelmonte2_small.jpgJason Belmonte (pictured) of Orange, New South Wales, Australia, has been unanimously named February 2013 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association. Belmonte captured the USBC Masters, his first major PBA title, by defeating Wes Malott, Pflugerville, Texas, 258-245. The two-hander, who ended the game with six consecutive strikes, became only the second foreign-born player to win the USBC Masters behind Koivuniemi in 2000.

IBMA elects Williams Jr., Romeo as Senior Bowlers of the Year for 2012

2012USBCSQRobinRomeo_small.jpg201213PBAWalterRayWilliams_small.jpgThe International Bowling Media Association (IBMA) has elected Walter Ray Williams Jr., Ocala, Fla., and Robin Romeo, Newhall, Calif. as Senior Bowlers of the Year for 2012. Williams Jr. won two titles on the 2012 PBA Senior Tour en route to capture his first PBA Senior Player of the Year crown. Romeo was crowned champion in the inaugural Senior Women's U.S. Open and also won the Triple Crown Shootout.

Tommy Jones starts 2013 as January IBMA Bowler of the Month

Tommy Jones, Simpsonville, South Carolina, has been named the January 2013 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association. Jones defended his men's title at the International Bowling Championships 2013 supported by DHC in Inazawa, Japan, by beating Sean Rash, Montgomery, Illinois, 209-204. The title counted for a World Bowling Tour major title as well as a PBA International title, giving Jones his 14th career PBA crown and the 6,000,000 Yen first place prize.

Mika Koivuniemi masterful as December IBMA Bowler of the Month

2012EBT19MikaKoivuniemi2_small.jpgMika Koivuniemi, Finland, has been named December 2012 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association. Koivuniemi captured two international tournaments in the month. The first win was the Round1 Japan Cup, a 268-164 decision over Yoshihiro Kaji, Japan. The World Bowling Tour's 12th Qatar Bowling Open was Koivuniemi's second title of December with a 544-471 two-game total pins win over Finnish countryman Tony Ranta.

Parker Bohn III captures November IBMA Bowler of the Month

2012IBMANovBotMParkerBohn_small.jpg Parker Bohn III (pictured) of Jackson, New Jersey, has been named November 2012 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association. Bohn captured the PBA World Championship by defeating Jason Belmonte, Orange, New South Wales, Australia, in the title match, 254-227. It is his 33rd career PBA title and second major title, following the 2001 USBC Masters.

Jason Belmonte lands October IBMA Bowler of the Month honors

Jason Belmonte (pictured) of Orange, New South Wales, Australia, has been named the October 2012 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association. Belmonte claimed the 50th AMF Australian Masters title and his fifth PBA crown defeating Sean Rash of Montgomery, Illinois, two-games-to-one in the best-of-three finals. Others receiving votes were Chris Barnes, Diandra Asbaty, Anne Marie Duggan (all United States), Peter Hellström of Sweden, Clara Guerrero of Colombia and Cho Young-Seon of Korea.

Youth is served as Marshall Kent claims September IBMA Bowler of the Month

Teen recognized second time in three months

2012TeamUSAMarshallKent_small.jpgMarshall Kent of Yakima, Washington, has been named the September 2012 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association. The 19-year-old Team USA member defeated the No. 10 seed, Oleksandr Kalika of Ukraine, in a two-game total pins match, 419-323, to win his first European Bowling Tour title in the  Russian Open in Moscow. This is Kent's third IBMA Kegel Bowler of the Month award, becoming the first USBC youth bowler to claim three honors.

Greg Young masters August IBMA Bowler of the Month

Greg Young, (pictured) of Viera, Florida, has been named the August 2012 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association.Young, 16, defeated Ashley Dunn, 15, Palmdale, Florida, 2-0, to win the Teen Masters Grand Championship and a $64,000 college scholarship package. Young, a junior at Viera High School, qualified third in the boys division into the Grand Championship, held for the second straight year in Vanderbilt Hall inside New York City's Grand Central Station.

It's official - BWAA is now International Bowling Media Association

IBMALogo_small.jpg During International Bowl Expo in Reno June 24-29, members of the Bowling Writers Association of America (BWAA) voted to support the recommendations of the BWAA Strategic Planning Committee to create a new name for the historic bowling journalist's group that started in 1934. On Friday, July 20, the BWAA board of directors agreed with the membership's recommendation to officially name the new global organization the International Bowling Media Association (IBMA). The change takes effect August 1.
