Maximum six men per country compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, Trios, five-player Teams, All-Events and Masters in the 9-day competition.

Finns average 227.42 in Squad 1 to lead teams from the United States, Malaysia and Korea; Lehtonen also leads the group of players who have completed 12 of 24 games in All Events with an average of 231.67

2014MWCJoonasJehkinenKimmoLehtonen_small.jpgKimmo Lehtonen and Joonas Jehkinen of Finland (r-l) paced a field of 33 teams Monday morning at Khalifa International Bowling Center averaging 227.42 for six games on the medium pattern to take the early lead in Men's World Championships Doubles. The lefties started with a game of 493 to take the lead and never look back. They added 480, 441, 462, 401 and 454 to set the pace with 2729 and were followed by duos from the United States, Malaysia and Korea were.

No. 4 seed defeats UAE's Shaker Al-Hassan in the title match, 256-212; Tommy Jones (USA) and Sam Cooley (AUS) share the bronze medal

MacLelland defeated the local favorite, 256-212, to claim the gold medal. Al Hassan took the silver medal. Tommy Jones, United States, and Sam Cooley, Australia, shared bronze.

Tommy Jones (USA) remained atop the leaderboard with 1434 and an average of 239. Choi Bokeum of Korea, Larsen's compatriot Daniel Fransson and Manuel Otalora of Colombia (l-r) missed the top 4 in 10th, 14th and 15th place.

2014MWCSinglesSquad2Top4_small.jpgTeam USA's Tommy Jones averaged 239 in the second of four qualifying squads to overtake lead in the Men's World Championships Singles competition Saturday afternoon at Khalifa International Bowling Center in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Jones, who toppled 1434 pins, to become the first player who cracked the 1400-bar. Petteri Salonen of Finland, England's Stu Williams and Martin Paulsson of Sweden were next to Jones in Squad 2 but missed the top 4 by nine pins or less.

Khalifa International Bowling Center, UAE's national bowling facility, is located at Zayed Sports City. The venue was built for the 1999 World Championships. Nearly 1,000 spectators will be able to sit and enjoy the Men's World Championships at the 40-lane center which also features two pro shops, three restaurants and a billiard room.

Pedersen set the early pace with 1381. Shogo Wada of Japan was second with 1371 including a 297 high game. With three more squads to go, Koreans Shin Seunghyeon and Kang Heewon were tied for third place at 1367.

World Bowling finalizes invitation strategy for Abu Dhabi World Championships

In his "Friends of Bowling Report" World Bowling and WTBA president, Kevin Dornberger (r.), United States, informed that bowling's world governing body has invited the President of the Commonwealth Games Federation and three Olympic media outlets.

Chris Barnes, Mike Fagan, Tommy Jones, Marshall Kent, Bill O'Neill and Sean Rash (Montgomery, Illinois) have been selected by the Team USA coaching staff to compete in the event.

2011WTBALogo_small.jpgThe World Tenpin Bowling Association has announced that the sport's governing body has to change the dates again for the 2014 Men's World Championships in Abu Dhabi, UAE. As the Formula 1 race in Abu Dhabi moved close to the planned dates of the MWC, which were recently scheduled for November 8-19, the championships are now supposed to be held from December 4-15 at Khalifa International Bowling Center, the host center of the 1999 World Championships.

Israel announces Team for the 2014 Men's World Championship in Abu Dhabi

2014ISRTeamfor2014MWC_small.jpgThe Israel Bowling Federation has announced the six-player team for the 2014 Men's World Championship in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The Israeli Team Trials concluded Saturday, February 1, at the bowling center of Petach Tikva. The 2014 Men's World Championships will be held from November 8-19 at 40-lane Khalifa Bowling Stadium in Zayed Sports City. In the past, Israeli players were denied a visa by the UAE, and thus prevented Israel from playing at the 1999 Worlds.

USBC Coaching makes impact at WTBA World Championships

The global reach of the USBC Coaching Certification and Development department was on full display at the recent WTBA World Championships. The prestigious event, which took place Aug. 16-30 in Henderson, Nev., not only featured the sport of bowling's top players but also its top coaches. There were 24 active USBC certified coaches helping guide the world's best bowlers from 46 countries.

2013 combined WTBA World Championships comes to a close with Victory Banquet

2013WCLogo_small.jpg The 2013 World Tenpin Bowling Association World Championships came to a close Friday evening, August 30, with the victory banquet which started with the award ceremonies of the men's and women's five-player team events. 428 players, 216 men and 212 women, from 44 countries participated in the first combined adult World Championships since 2003.
