Rasmus Bering paces Round One as finals get underway at Norwegian Open 2014 by Brunswick

The finals of the Norwegian Open 2014 by Brunswick got underway on Sunday morning at Veitvet Bowling Center in Oslo with the first of five three-game rounds featuring 16 players, qualifiers 25 to 28, who were seeded into the round and the top 12 from the semifinals.
Dane Rasmus Bering (left), who rolled one of five 300 games in qualifying, led the seven women and nine men with 695 total including games of 247, 265 and 187 and an average of 213.67.
Mikael Roos (above right) of Sweden was eight pins behind in second place with 683 including a high game of 265 with local favorite Fredrik Tjernes of Norway in third place on 680. Tjernes, who made the qualifying cut in 42nd and last place, had three games between 215 and 241.

Latvian two-hander Daniel Vezis (left) was fourth with 676 followed by Rebecka Larsen (right) of Sweden, who was the best woman in the round in fifth place with 660 including eight pins handicap each game.
Her fellow countryman Christopher Lüttke took sixth place with 639 including a high game of 248. Rounding out the top 8, who survived the fourth cut were Denmark's Mai Ginge Jensen and Britt Brøndsted, who checked in with 638 and 636, respectively.
The top eight meet qualifiers 17-24 in Final Round Two.
The Norwegian Open 2014 by Brunswick is the 17th stop of the 2014 European Bowling Tour and the seventh out of nine EBT "Satellite" events this season. The tournament will be held from Oct. 3-12 at Veitvet Bowling Center in Oslo.
The total prize fund is 239.000 Kronor or 29.000 Euro with 40.000 NOK or approx. 4.850 Euro going to the winner.
Bowlingdigital will cover the Norwegian Open 2014 by Brunswick live from Veitvet Bowling Center in Oslo with stories and results after each round commencing Thursday, October 9, all the way through to the finals. The finals will be on Sunday, October 12, completed in the late afternoon.

Qualifying of the Norwegian Open began Friday, Oct. 3 and ran through Saturday, Oct. 11. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game, an equality handicap provided to women in every event on the European Bowling Tour. Total 60 players advanced to the finals on Saturday (Semifinal Round 1 and 2) and Sunday, Oct. 11 & 12.
The top 8 qualifiers earn four byes and will be seeded in Round 4, places 9-16 go to Round 3, places 17-24 start in Round 2 and places 25-28 begin in Round 1. The other 32 finalists advanced to Semifinal Round 1.
The top 24 players after three game scratch advanced to the Semifinal Round 2 to bowl further three games with the pinfall carried over. The top 12 meet the top 28 qualifiers in Final Round 1 starting on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
The finals consist of five three-game rounds with rounds 1-4 starting from scratch. The field will be trimmed from 40 to 32, 24, 16, and then eight who bowl a final three-game block with the pinfall from Round 4 carried forward.
The player with the highest six-game total will earn the title, 40.000 Norwegian Kronor (roughly 4.850 Euro) and 50 ranking points.
The 2014 European Bowling Tour features 19 tournaments in 13 countries. In its 15th season, the EBT consists of two Platinum, six Gold, three Silver and eight Satellite tournaments. The total prize fund is almost one million Euro.
The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. Those points will be tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 12 men and top 12 women, who will compete in the eighth EBT Masters July 6, 2015 at Bowling ChamartÃn in Madrid, Spain, immediately following the III Brunswick Madrid Challenge.
