World Bowling creates group to explore alternative scoring systems

With hopes of making following competitive bowling easier and simpler for a majority of people and mainstream media, World Bowling has created a new group tasked with exploring alternative scoring systems. World Bowling president and CEO Kevin Dornberger has announced the formation of the Alternate Bowling Scoring System working group that will find a way to engage non-bowling spectators to help the sport grow. Dornberger said the goal for this group is to come up with an initial recommendation by Dec. 1, 2014.

World Bowling launches new website and several social media channels

Bowling community set to grow as World Bowling's digital presence expands

2014WorldBowlingLogo_small.jpg World Bowling, the federation that now unites all of international bowling under one name, has expanded its digital presence with the launch of a new website and various social media channels. World Bowling aims to connect international bowlers worldwide, while also developing new global fans. To support these efforts, the federation has increased its digital presence with the launch of WorldBowling.org and several social media channels including Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.

World Bowling exhibits new trade name and logo at SportAccord Convention

12th edition attracts 1636 attendees representing 78 nationalities from around the world

2014SportAccordEXPOBooth_small.jpg The SportAccord Convention is an annual week-long series of meetings, educational functions and Expo under the management of SportAccord GAISF. World Bowling is a member of SportAccord as are all other sports recognized by the IOC as well as some that are not. The 12th annual SportAccord Convention 2014, which attracted 1636 attendees representing 78 nationalities from around the world, was held from April 6-11 at Susesi Convention Center (pictured above) in Belek/Antalya, Turkey.

World Bowling celebrates industry wide support as it launches new brand

2014WorldBowlingLogo_small.jpgThe decision to unite all international bowling organisations under the common brand name of 'World Bowling' will be showcased at SportAccord Convention in Belek, Turkey this week. This new step for international bowling will be celebrated at the convention during a special bowling event on Thursday April 10th - hosted by World Bowling President Kevin Dornberger. World Bowling has the commitment of all of its 129 national federations in expanding the reach and relevance of bowling worldwide under the new name.

Results from a Study on Specifications presented to World Bowling Executive Board

2014WorldBowlingLogo_small.jpg World Bowling, formerly the World Tenpin Bowling Association, has partnered with the United States Bowling Congress and the Hong Kong Sports Institute to conduct a study on bowling specifications for elite level competition. Specifically, the goal of the study was to create a distinguishable platform for elite world competition with scoring being the key measurable. During the development phase of the study, bowling was broken down to the following components: lane conditioner, pins, lane patterns and balls.

2014 Men's World Championships change dates again

Championships shift to December 4-15 at Khalifa International Bowling Center in Abu Dhabi, UAE

2011WTBALogo_small.jpgThe World Tenpin Bowling Association has announced that the sport's governing body has to change the dates again for the 2014 Men's World Championships in Abu Dhabi, UAE. As the Formula 1 race in Abu Dhabi moved close to the planned dates of the MWC, which were recently scheduled for November 8-19, the championships are now supposed to be held from December 4-15 at Khalifa International Bowling Center, the host center of the 1999 World Championships.

Finland's Ahlström, USA's Reichert honored with WTBA John Davis Memorial Award

Former longtime Finnish Bowling Federation president Kauko Ahlström and former Brunswick Chairman and CEO Jack Reichert have been selected to win the inaugural World Tenpin Bowling Association John Davis Memorial Award. The award, named after the late Kegel founder John Davis, recognizes individuals who have selflessly devoted their time and resources to the sport of bowling over a significant period of time. The John Davis Memorial Award is awarded entirely at the discretion of the WTBA.

Las Vegas to host 2015 World Seniors; Qatar to host 2016 World Singles Championships

2011WTBALogo_small.jpgAfter successful inaugural events, the World Tenpin Bowling Association World Senior Championships and World Singles Championships will return in 2015 and 2016, respectively. The 2015 World Senior Championships have been awarded to Sam's Town in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, while the 2016 World Singles Championships have been awarded to Doha, Qatar. The events are tentatively scheduled for between July and September 2015 (WSrC) and for the end of 2016 (WSC).

Kevin Dornberger, President and CEO of the WTBA and President of the Federation Internationale des Quilleurs, made the official presentation at the FIQ and WTBA Congresses, which were held right after the conclusion of the WTBA World Championships, Saturday, August 31, and Sunday, September 1, at Sunset Station Hotel in Henderson, Nev., United States.

Hong Kong Sports Institute added to WTBA-USBC scoring study

20081009HKSILogo_small.jpgThe World Tenpin Bowling Association's study on factors that influence scoring in the sport will now be joined by the Hong Kong Sports Institute in addition to the United States Bowling Congress. The study is being conducted to determine new lines of specifications at the sport of bowling's elite level. WTBA, USBC and the Hong Kong Sports Institute will work jointly on the project and make recommendations to the WTBA Congress. A status report will be given on all items in August 2013.

John Davis, the founder of the Kegel Company, was an industry icon, a visionary and pioneer in the creation of bowling products and services that promote fair competition on a consistent playing field. He passed away on Friday morning January 25. He was 64.

It is with great sadness that Kegel has announced that its founder and CEO, John M. Davis passed away at the age of 64 this morning at his home in Winter Haven, Florida. John was a very generous and compassionate man, who absolutely loved the sport of bowling. John leaves behind a legacy that will impact the sport of bowling and those who knew him forever. He will be sadly missed by his mother, wife, four brothers, three children, and six grandchildren, along with his extended family at Kegel and throughout the bowling industry.

In an effort to determine new lines of specifications at the sport of bowling's elite level, the United States Bowling Congress will join with the World Tenpin Bowling Association to look at factors that influence scoring. A background study and hypothesis testing will begin immediately, with lab and field testing beginning next year.

Abu Dhabi to host WTBA World Championships for Men in 2014 and for Women in 2015

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, will host the 2014 WTBA World Men's Championships and the 2015 WTBA World Women's Championships, the WTBA announced Wednesday. The UAE last hosted the WTBA World Championships in 1999, which also took place in Abu Dhabi. The 2014 and 2015 events will take place in late August or early September each year at the Khalifa International Bowling Center. The hosts of the events will be Zayed Sports City and the Bid Committee of Abu Dhabi.

WTBA awards 2014 World Youth Championships to Hong Kong; 2016 to United States

2011WTBALogo_small.jpgThe World Tenpin Bowling Association has announced the 2014 WTBA World Youth Championship will be contested in Hong Kong, while Lincoln, Neb., in the United States will host the 2016 event. The WTBA Executive Committee announced the selections at its meeting alongside the 2012 World Youth Championships this week in Bangkok, Thailand. The 2014 event is slated to take place in the first half of August 2014 while the 2016 event will be held in July.

PBA, World Tenpin Bowling Association unveil International Tour

For first time in bowling history, players will compete for PBA titles on first true global professional bowling tour

The alliance will allow international and domestic PBA members who compete in World Bowling Tour events to earn PBA Tour titles in WBT events and to bowl in PBA Tour events in the United States.
