Tore Torgersen averages over 280 to lead top 8 players into championship round

    Norwegians fires 844 series to take a 74-pin lead into the last three-game round; as the lone woman in the finale, Kamilla Kjeldsen (DEN) has won the women's ranking in Oslo

    The former world and European champion averaged 281.33 for an 844 series including games of 267, 299 and 278 at Veitvet Bowling Center in Oslo. He missed the sixth perfecto of the tournament due to a solid 9 on his fill ball in game two.

    The top eight players advanced to last three-game round with the pinfall from Round 4 being carried forward. Torgersen holds a 74-pin lead over lefty Mads Sandbækken (right), Norway, in second place with 770 (244, 258, 268).

    As the lone woman in the finale, sixth place Kamilla Kjeldsen (below right; 710 with handicap), Denmark, has won the women's ranking in Oslo.

    Rounding out the top 8 were Mikael Roos (708), Sweden, who started his run for the title in the semifinals yesterday night, and 18-year-old Norwegian youth national team member Martin Moen Stikbakke, who took the final berth with 683.

    2014NorwegianOpenLogo.jpg The Norwegian Open 2014 by Brunswick is the 17th stop of the 2014 European Bowling Tour and the seventh out of nine EBT "Satellite" events this season. The tournament will be held from Oct. 3-12 at Veitvet Bowling Center in Oslo.

    The total prize fund is 239.000 Kronor or 29.000 Euro with 40.000 NOK or approx. 4.850 Euro going to the winner.

    Qualifying of the Norwegian Open began Friday, Oct. 3 and ran through Saturday, Oct. 11. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game, an equality handicap provided to women in every event on the European Bowling Tour. Total 60 players advanced to the finals on Saturday (Semifinal Round 1 and 2) and Sunday, Oct. 11 & 12.

    The top 8 qualifiers earn four byes and will be seeded in Round 4, places 9-16 go to Round 3, places 17-24 start in Round 2 and places 25-28 begin in Round 1. The other 32 finalists advanced to Semifinal Round 1.

    The top 24 players after three game scratch advanced to the Semifinal Round 2 to bowl further three games with the pinfall carried over. The top 12 meet the top 28 qualifiers in Final Round 1 starting on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.

    The finals consist of five three-game rounds with rounds 1-4 starting from scratch. The field will be trimmed from 40 to 32, 24, 16, and then eight who bowl a final three-game block with the pinfall from Round 4 carried forward.

    The player with the highest six-game total will earn the title, 40.000 Norwegian Kronor (roughly 4.850 Euro) and 50 ranking points.

    2014EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2014 European Bowling Tour features 19 tournaments in 13 countries. In its 15th season, the EBT consists of two Platinum, six Gold, three Silver and eight Satellite tournaments. The total prize fund is almost one million Euro.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. Those points will be tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 12 men and top 12 women, who will compete in the eighth EBT Masters July 6, 2015 at Bowling Chamartín in Madrid, Spain, immediately following the III Brunswick Madrid Challenge.
